The forums are not like before. GD is still pretty busy, but most of the other forums are relatively quiet. "Dead" is a probably a better word.
The quality of advice and discussion has also gone down, in addition to the fact that topics stay on the front page of many forums for days, indicating decrease in posting in general.
This has coincided with the introduction of the new forums, but that cannot be the only explanation. Many of the old forum warriors are not there, which probably makes a big difference.
Am I the only one who feels this way? Is this nostalgia, and are the forums active and raging as ever? |

Yes, the forums are quite different now. Because of the SC nerf, people are whining endlessly and- Wait. There's whining, as per usual. Nothing has changed. |

Its the appeareance. Old forums had this tech-savy discussion board look to it. This one is vulgar, almost a facebook rip-off. With all the likes and stuff.
When people see topics like "Give and get likes thread" with hundreds of pages floating on the front page for so long, they give up on trying to have a level-headed intelectual conversation with these people. Sometimes the only difference between a budding genius and a blooming idiot is where they chose to take a stand. |

With the exodus of many good players from the game , as you said " "The quality of advice and discussion has also gone down"
I am saddened by what has happened here, it seems we no longer have interesting discussions about gameplay backed up by experimentation and recording results.
Instead we have text bites consisting of "you mad bra".
In my opinion the issues ( all were discussed at length here) that caused the lose of good players also are causing a degradation of the game and forums. It's gotten to the point i shake my head and mutter - then go play the other mmo.

They are still alive but not as much as they were
for me
Other forum rooms are for questions and answers. These are generally polite and good advice is given unless someone from GD wanders in there
General discussion is for trolling

It took you that long to come to those conclusions? The decline has been going on for months since the last good expansion. The new forums although it gives enough cause for grief to some, isn't the primary contributing factor. You can observe the subtle trending even from the old forum before the change over.

This is especially true of Ships & Modules Forum. This used to be a place where you were not trolled over posting stupid questions. Multiple fittings were posted in every thread and the intricacies of game mechanics debated over in detail etc.
Market discussions has also gone severely downhill imho.

No doubt. Eve is entirely a different place tbh. Hope CCP get their act together. It will take time for the community to get back to where it was. |

Yeah, there's a few reasons why the forums are no longer the same as before.
When you write a lengthy reply that takes longer than 2 minutes, you have to 'Copy' it first or it all disappears when you post or preview. Then you have to start over again.
While searching the forums, 1/2 the time you'll get a screen with a really big 'We were ganked' on it, then you have to navigate back to the previous page. Then hope it doesn't happen again.
When trying to set up a link in the thread, 1/2 the time you'll get a message about 'BBC' code error when you preview or try to post.
Probably the main reason is due to too much Trolling, Off Topic Posting, Flame Wars, Spamming, etc. |

Maybe it's just me, but I haven't noticed much change...all the other threads are as slow as usual, GD is still #1have on the forum whine index, etc. See, even this thread could be considered a whine thread, just need some cheese in here and we'll be good. But I digress, from a personal view towards quality of threads, you won't find much here, never really had, but the quality of threads in other sections is at least as good if not better in the other sections, it's just that people actually take time to think about what they say, so you won't get instant responses like you do here.
Plus could be a matter of change in perception, could go on about the philosophical / psychological aspects of this.

Idiots like this are dragging it into the dirt...
All the OP made as a simple observation, and then he posed a fair question. This little troglodyte comes in with "it took you this long to figure it out?" Reflecting some kind of deeply rooted need to get the better of someone he has never even met before today.
Look at the forum rules... Technically we are not even supposed to "pyramid post" but these forums have gone un-moderated for so long, that all of the good people have been driven away. Same thing has happened to the lul Singularity server, which few people care about... but the GM's got sick of enforcing any of the rules, and so now it's mostly matari ships dodging Capital/Supers at every beacon. It's "test functionality" is no longer existent for the common player, as it once used to be.
Forums are the same. CCP has invited the human crap to set up camp in their living room... and now they are here to stay (TM) |

OP poses a relatively legitimate question, whiners jump on board. It never ends.

The hurt is really showing. Show me where I touched you?
P.S. Really now troglodyte? I'd give credit to the word sophistication, but it lacks the oomph. |

More EVE Meme... he just ask me if I was Mad Bra... And then followed it with a "Where did I Touch you"
It is now so commonplace that it doesn't even have to make sense... Mad/hurt about what exactly? Did we even meet before this very moment? (when did you "touch me" in game, or even on these forums prior to this instant?)
Let me now add an EVE Meme of my own "Never stop posting!" |

the decline has been in progress for much longer
this topic was brought up in the Market Discussion forum (where the decline has been very noticeable) about 1.5 years ago and Chribba used his eve-search data to create some shiny graphs for us:

Chribba wrote:For anyone that want to graph stuff then, GD and MD posts 2009-2011 - Linkage/c Thank you Chribba for the data. I am not good with graphs, but I made a bar graph of the raw data, which basically tells the story: Recent increase in GD posts and recent decrease in MD posts. Of interest is the huge spike in June 2011.
I decided to look more closely at the last 3 months (14 July - 13 Oct. 2011) and to compare the numbers to the same period in 2010.
The results:
Average no. of posts/day, last 3 months, GD = 1016, MD = 97
Average no. of posts/day, same period 2010, GD = 621, MD = 167
You can argue that the increase in GD posts is due to the subjective increase in trolling.
I have also had trouble posting in the new forums- and use an external editor to compose posts before pasting them here. Losing long posts certainly puts you off, as suggested above. |
