Can we please have Player Corporations deleted, if they have 0 members? Or have been inactive for like 5 years.
You can witness this yourself if you inspect the Corporation Finder tool. |

I agree with this, if the corp has 0 members it should be closed and left as such with the name reentering the pool. Which it should be but wasnt when I last tried. |

Thank you my friend.
There are so many benefits to list:::
Name is reentered into the name pool. Less spam, and better clean up in the corporation finder tool. |

Easy fix really: If an account unsubscribe, kick all characters from any player corporation. If a corp has 0 members, make the name available. |

Yarp. When a corp has 0 members, it is closed and no longer exists. The name can be used again. "The nice thing about quotes is that they give us a nodding acquaintance with the originator which is often socially impressive." ~Kenneth Williams |

There was a dev response a few years back on why closed down corporations are retained in the database and players are unable to open up new ones with the same name: They're still in someone's employment history.

Check my employment history and you'll see the same corp name used and labeled (closed) twice. I'm sure it could be used a 3rd time if someone wanted to, but i doubt they would.
They must have made a change since you heard that. "The nice thing about quotes is that they give us a nodding acquaintance with the originator which is often socially impressive." ~Kenneth Williams |

Totally agree. There is a mess of Corps out there.
For the ones with a single player in them, send a mail out to inform them of the imminent closure of their Corp*, (30 days), and to offer them an invite back to EVE for 7 days to try it out again. Inform them that if they do not return within that period and choose to resubscribe, then their Corp will go into liquidation and any remaining assets will be placed in secure storage, following which a 45 day period will pass and the Corp name will be erased from the history books.
This would make them unlinkable from player history, (just like any closed Corp), and free up both ticker and name selection for use again. Personally, I think the removal of these would be a great benefit, and it would allow for one more thing: Those Corps that fall into this category which have POS in space would immediately release the POS from control and possession.
This would of course mean the POS would unanchor and fall into a deteriorating orbit which would result in its destruction within 2 hours, or at the next down time.
\o/
*Diplomatically of course. New policy, clearing databases and freeing up tags, tickers, etc.. unused, blahblablah... and so on as needed to ensure they don't think it is personal, which it isn't. zubzubzubzubzubzubzubzub |

< ade this corp recently and I must say that I was surprised it was available.
It will be one of the largest and most successful corp and eventually, alliances in game (have to speak it into existence, HALLELUJAH!!!).
But yeah...I was floored... |

This can happen if you joined, then left, then joined the same corp again before it was closed down. Employment history lists all the periods of your "employment" with corporation, in the chronological descending order. If you were a part of a corporation on multiple periods with any amount of breaks in between, they all will be listed as separate entries. This is why the closed corps do not get deleted and hence do not allow their names to be reused. |

Maybe, but i made the corp and closed it both times myself. "The nice thing about quotes is that they give us a nodding acquaintance with the originator which is often socially impressive." ~Kenneth Williams |

almost a year ago, i had made a corp called Celestial Ascension, to act as the lowsec combat corp for me and my buddies after we stopped being miners.
after just a couple engagements in low/null, we started getting nullsec recruitment requests and people asking us "hey, what happened to X, does he still fly with you all?"
only to go to eve-kill and see that apparently the corp name we chose was the name of a fairly successful combat corp years prior to me starting it, and people were scared of us miners/ratters in lowsec cause they thought we were actually "1337 pvp" (it was amarr lowsec, not hard to be considered elite down there, though we did rat in pvp ships, so thats probably another reason peopel thought we knew what we were doing) |

This is simply not true. Once a corporation has 0 members in it, the corporation becomes closed, and a new corporation can be created with that name, and ticker. Same goes for alliances. They are just retained in the database, like you said, for employment history records.
Thread was created on a misconception.

Nope. Here is evidence. I JUST took this and uploaded it. Here is an example of a corp with 0 members, still in existence. And there are MANY more like it where that came from.
Make sure you zoom in.

Is it possible that what people are seeing are corps that weren't closed, but instead all the members just quit the corp?
I thought the whole DOT thing was due to not being unable to use old corp and alliance names. |

What manner of witchcraft is this.
Maybe it happens when the last member in the corp biomasses?

But didn't goons themselves take the Band of Brothers name after getting it closed? I think they only do the dot thing for corps/alliances that are dead but not closed yet. I suspect it's just a bug, petition it and they might free it up.

I've just tested this and i take back my words in regards of inability to recreate corps that were closed under same name - it is, indeed, possible. I'm sorry for the misinformation on my part.
As for why corporation with 0 members was not closed down - maybe it's a bug of sorts and something actually prevents it from being properly closed down. Like anchored stuff that still belongs to corp (containers, poses, pocos) or outstanding contracts/ads/whatever.
Maybe we should report it to CCP so they can properly investigate it? |
