Its meant to be boring and painful, thats why its called probing. If it was supposed to be fun, It would be called like "Super Happy Funtime Finding of Things". Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |

I do not find probing/exploring boring at the moment; I like finding sites and anomalies and then seeing what's there. That is the entertaining part of exploration. Nor do I find using probes to "be a pain" overall; the only "pain" in the process is in the repeated re-arranging of the probes into the same shapes over and over again. I think this process is simply mindless after the first few iterations; once you've figured it out then the skill portion is ended and it's simple mouse manipulation. Perhaps, if we wanted to gauge skill in part by deftness of one's mouse movements, it is relevant. I personally don't feel that way.
DSPs alter that experience. You can know whether there is anything interesting in the system with only 1 probe. which can be launched during align, and retrieved before warp to the next gate ends, and without moving the probe or even looking at the map screen.
You can also scan the most valuable sig strength first, and do that sig if its useful whilst you scan down less valuable content.
Also you tend to be a bit more excited or interested when you know your goal sig str is in system, so you tend not to notice or resent arranging as much. DED 4s reasonably common on their sig str, so I'd guess most people hunting ded 4s probably deploy a probe box only 3 - 4 times per DED 4 find if thats what they are specificallly hunting, even if they ran through 15 systems. They'd probably resent the warping more than the arranging, and if you resent warping, well you'd best be a station trader really. |

Saw couple of mentions of Deep Space Probes in this thread. THEY should remove this 'banding' thing and while THEY are at it also restore sig IDs to what they were (random ... all the time).

When did he say it was a TL;DR? He wants us to read all of his post, but if we don't feel like so, he wants us to at least read the following section, which is unfortunately not so helpful an advise to give in the middle of a post since people usually read from the beginning. |

Quite a lot of exploring is knowing what sites not to bother with.
This is much closer to how I feel skill should be measured and rewarded; knowing where to look and what to disregard. This draws much more upon a player's wisdom and is the better mechanism, in my opinion.
...but that is already possible. Read some guides or try a wh for some time...just try to figure it out...that is what a good portion of EvE is for me...GO FIGURE IT OUT

These guys should have been playing in 2003-2006 when the game was REALLY difficult
Have noticed this myself - As far as I understand CCP have created a new super hi-sec for these people.
You can access it by pressing Alt-F4 and uninstall. Post with my main? This is my main - I just overtrain and overplay my alts. |

They can remove banding when they move ****ing wormholes to their own category.

Probes didn't have their own warp drives back then, you had to literally warp to things and drop probes. Probes had different scan ranges and there were more types of them. Did you know you can use Shift to select everything to move probes as a group, or resize them as a group. You can also use ALT and drag to scale the probes in their current formation. Speeds up scanning no end! |
