Note too Pann: Please read beyond the title this time - k thx.

Why, when travelling deep inside the enforced security of Empire Space, whilst cruising past Concord Billboards, waiving pleasently at the Concord Battleship and Caldari Naval Cruisers, jinking gently past the Defending Gate-Guns, why, for the love of just the tinniest bit of immersion, why am i being "nibbled" at by Guristas Arrogators?
Why?
Is bypassing them a challenge? - No, my pod can own them
Does it make sense them being there? - Not at all
Can a PC pirate do similar? - Oh look - no they can't.
So why?
WHy are they there?
Relic of a long forgotten attempt to make travel BEYOND secure space more difficult? Oh yes.
But - Wait, I hear you say? ALL Empire space is now secured.
So - other than them being more SENSIBLY positioned around moons, planets, suns and specials - away from Police patrols, naval squadrons and angry Gate-guns - wth cant CCP get rid of these rediculous and redundant by-products of an earlier idea-gone-wrong.
And whilst they are at it - move them all out to NON-Empire space gates, toughen them up a bit and transport their "Flotsam" along with them so that looting those is something more than a free-linch for those who can stomach the sheer teedium of repeat looting them.
There is nothing worse, in any MOG, than having too watch past ideas, long since superceeded, stare you in the face day in, day out.
Somehow I don't think that being nibbled by two Guristas N00bs in a 0.8 system, whilst the Cops, Navy and the "ive got 9.99 faction with them" friendly gate guns stare on, was what was intended.
- - -
No its not a biggy - but its eating into my brain with it being so damn easy to fix.

Hear hear.
Actually, i'd love to hear hear anything from CCP regarding this at all. I have chosen to believe i will simply see it in the next patch notes, but a simple "yep, on it" or "nope, suck it up" would suffice. On this and lots of other current issues. I think they're in shell shock.
MMOGS are kinda like daytime talk show guests... they KNOW what happens to everyone else on there, but they go anyway and think they'll handle it better... ,-). I'm not without sympathy, but with so many issues building up i don't wanna be without patience, either....

You know, I was wondering much the same thing. I can take my Indy to a 0.8 system in Amarr space, set up to mine and be constantly bothered by NPC Pirates buzzing about my head doing nothing other than giving my Shield Booster some work.
But why are they there? If a PC Pirate comes into the system and starts shooting at me I know Concord or the Amarr Police wont be far behind. Do I need to pay people to kill the fly that bother me? Being in a largely British Corp, I can frequently find myself online without Corp members on, although I shouldn't have to rely on them to protect me in high security EMPIRE space.

It's like you say, your pod can own them. CONCORD obviously consider them laughing stocks beneficial to tourism rather than threats.

Think People. The NPC pirates are in the high sec space to give noobs that do not want to mine to get started something to hunt. They are NOT there just to annoy you. They are there for the noobs nothing more.

Just think MindBender - if people read the post they would see that NOBODY said ANYTHING about removing them from Planets, moons, belts or specials.
Indeed - they actually said the opposite!
Shock.
Horror.
/em gives in with people who simply refuse t rtfp
I mean - it would be INCONCEIVEABLE to actually give an immersive reason and position for them in systems. Wouldn't it? Or to, maybe, remove them from the totallys tupid ones?
Nah - silly me - about as likely as some "folks" bothering to read and comprehend a post.

Hey! Those pesky angel thugs almost cost me a bestower! I was busy replying to threads here and catching up on my webcomics. If I hadn't peeked in on my autopilot, they might have gotten the indy past 1/2 shields :P

You know Morkt, I would agree with you about the gate NPC pirates if you weren't such an ass.

I'll have to go with Lady Gwyneth on this one. The clown pirates aren't threats to be taken down by CONCORD, they are tourist attractions!
CCP ought to implement a safety feature so the clown pirates take time out to "reload" if their target get below 50% shield just to make sure the whole system is foolproof. I mean, we wouldn't want to see some poor shmud actually get blown up by a clown pirate, now, would we?

I'm confused, didn't you say this Morkt:
"So - other than them being more SENSIBLY positioned around moons, planets, suns and specials - away from Police patrols, naval squadrons and angry Gate-guns - wth cant CCP get rid of these rediculous and redundant by-products of an earlier idea-gone-wrong.
And whilst they are at it - move them all out to NON-Empire space gates"
Sounds to me you did say about removing them. Which would pretty much make empire space completely risk-proof. Boring!!

You know, I wouldn't mind the Pirates being removed from the belts in High Security systems. Say 0.8 and above. Why should I have to worry for my safety in Empire space where even PC Pirates can not attack without intervention from the Police? Why don't the NPC Pirates get the same treatment?
Sure, I COULD just bring in my Vexor with a gun or two, with 3 mining lasers and 6 Harvester Drones. Then I have the problem of spending more time taking my Ore back to the station than I actually spend mining (like most people seem to think we miners SHOULD do) or dump it in a can and blow away any thieves who come to take it, in which case Concord and the Police become my enemy, not my savior
The system sucks

LOL or make it so lvl 1 and maybe lvl 2 frig pilots can have the same rules in empire space... No wait that would actually be something fun... we cant have that :) If it gets above that then it is considered a threat by Concord. It would bring back frig's to the game and would stimulate builders economy... is this making to much sence?

Actually bonepart unless you are using a Vex to mine and an indy to haul the time you spend mining and hauling in your Vexor would be the same amount if you just dumped it into a can.

Tallon,
It's a wonderful idea !
Imagine a sworm of a dozen bantams rushing to your moa as you try to make it to the gate ! It would be... epic ;)
I'm sure Lord Zap wouldn't kill to be able to camp the gate to mara in passari with a bantam... but... ;)

This makes me think of an event I've always wanted to try: The Velator Zerg.
Get people together to create new characters with a spare slot they might have. All choose the same career path so as to spawn in the same system.
Go out and hunt m0o with a massive horde of Velators. ---------------- Blue Screen of Death CEO Exodus Enterprises |

Actually Bentguru, I was taking it for granted that it was understood I would be using my Indy to collect my ore :)
Seeing as I like to pile about 20k Omber into a can before fetching my Indy (which I leave in system at the station) I grimace at the thought of trying to bring it all in with my Vexor ^_^;
In fact, the very thought makes me want to toss my cookies, as it were.
As far as my thoughts on Can Theft. If someone manages to get to my can in between my trip to the belt and the station more power to them, I wont begrudge them that. However, if they are going for the can that is sitting under one klick from my Vexor while I'm mining I'm going to defend it :)

As long as they are as stupid as the NPC clown pilots, I say CONCORD ought to consider them tourist attractions instead of threats too.
Of course, the moment they start acting smart enough to drop the shields of an indy with an AFK pilot below 50%...well...let's just say that things get ugly when CONCORD decide to consider you a threat. =)

We need back the gate pirates they had in Beta, the ones that could shred a frigate in less than 10 seconds. Might as well just take these ones out, they don't do anything but slow down the load time for the environment.

The pirates at gates make some fun for a new character. Yep they are nothing but a nusiance to larger ships. Maybe this is why concord allows their continued presence?

Ok here it is..
0.8 - 0.7 N00b ships 0.6 - 0.5 frig lvl 1 0.4 - 0.3 frig lvl 2 0.2 - 0.1 frig lvl 3 0.0 Anything goes
If the above is met it is considered to small a threat for Concord to react to.
LOL now that would be funny watching N00b ships as pirates :)

LOL>. BSOD has a GREAT idea.. let the low lvl frigates have a lower threat rating in secure systems.. so they can become a reasonable threat, with the caveat that if they pounce on a mining ship and it's in a corp they are eligable for destruction by that corp ...automatically.. no penalty to the corp they tried to pounce. up to say a lvl2 frigate maybe? anything higher would most likely become a griefer issue, don't forget a frigate "Zerg" attack of 8-10 ships is a serious threat even for a heavy cruiser.. the sheer number of targets means you get hit pretty bad and even destroyed by the higher lvl frigates, which are no slouch in the combat dept. Imagine a bakers dozen Rifters or Merlins coming down the throat of your shiny new Cruiser?? It's time to hope you can hit them or run like hell... well that's my 2cents worth.. a great idea.. although one that could be nasty if not carefully implemented... like most of the other changes we've had.. "If wishes were fishes.... ahhh fuggit. Gimme a Megathron so I can blow the **** offa MoO" "Your Mother was a Hamster.. and your Father smelt of Elderberries!" - traditional French Insult |
