Is it possible to self destruct a ship that isn't yours and still get the base insurance payout?
i.e. I find ship X floating in space. I board and self destruct ship X. Will I get money for it and if so how much? |

Not unless YOU insure it. |

I thought all ships gave a 40% base payout.
I've read stories on here of people in wormholes finding carriers, boarding them and then sd'ing them for the insurance. |

You can sorta do that but it is pointless, if you can board it just fly it away and sell it. It used to be profitable to self destruct ships for the insurance fraud, but since insurance has changed it doesn't cover nearly as much as it used to. Iirc the base insurances always gets paid out, but it is only a fraction of what the ship is worth. I once podded myself by blowing a huge fart. |

I you can't leave then i'd say you might as well self destruct it, as any isk is better than no isk at all. I once podded myself by blowing a huge fart. |

So if the value if the hull is around 1.5b would i get about 600m? Or 40%? |

Insurance payout is based upon the mineral value of the ship, not the value of the ship itself.
Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times, it's a goonspiracy. |

What ship is it? If we have a similar ship insured we can tell you how much the insurance would pay.
For T1 frigates, cruisers, BC's, and battleships the insurance payout is roughly 40% of the mineral cost of the hull. For T2 ships, T3 cruisers, and the more expensive ships the insurance completely fails to follow the price; I'd guess that your 1.5b will likely give you 30 million in insurance. |

Boarding someone else's ship voids the insurance and you can't insure ships while in a wormhole system, whatever insurance you might get will only be base payout. "haiku are easy, But sometimes they don't make sense, Refrigerator." |
