I just exited EVE after playing for only 30 min today. I'm now getting extremely fed up with the non-functioning Autopilot.
Any sort of roundtrips is completely impossible for the Autopilot to understand. It keeps assuming my Current System is my Destination and my Destination is Current System?????/
And yes I know about the F10 'fix' - and NO it doesn't always work. I'm travelling quite bit back and forth between a few stations and not Once have I experienced a successful Autopilot journey.
I've now given up and will only occationally log on to EVE to set new skills to train - until my current subscription is up. When I see that the Autopilot have been fixed I might start playing again.
And please refrain from flaming saying AFK travel is wrong - I don't go AFK when I travel. But I do chat and make other decisions when travelling and having the Autopilot disable for no reason is not acceptable. I would rather go back to the old system where it disabled for Threats - that at least makes sense.
Please CCP/Devs - fix the Autopilot, it's been broken for a long time.....

I've been using autopilot fine pretty much ever since it was implimented, aside from the bugs that were existent.
It isnt a very hard system to use at all.
And finally, the dev's have much more priority on features that we need / want to get into the game.

sad but true. The game would be alot better if Autopilot works 100% of the time. - disables when approaching gate and not successfully jumping at 7500m, when it should be 10k m - auto disables when i turn on autopilot for a destination for unknown reason - travel from a to b, set destination to b on bookmark, reach b, set destination to a, bookmark wont show yellow highlight to destinaion a. Current destination on the left corner of your screen will show the same system you're in, instead of the system of destination a
The strangest thing is. Autopilot works 100% of time close to end of beta. Somethings changed and now its very buggy now

"disables when approaching gate and not successfully jumping at 7500m, when it should be 10k m"
Regarding this, it's a symptom of server lag.
The autopilot seems to be implemented at the client side. So the autopilot will issue a "jump" command when it thinks it's in range, which is followed by a lag rubberband to outside of jump range. ---------------- Blue Screen of Death CEO Exodus Enterprises |

I'd agree here. This is one of the few longstanding glaring bugs that hasn't really been addressed by recent patches. Hauling bist to a station 4-5 hops away means making quite a few round trips. In my experience, I have to open my map window after one leg to get the autopilot to accept me going back the way I came and then when I get back there I have to exit the game and restart to get it to allow me to start autopiloting back. I'd love to see this fixed.

One thing I believe needs fixing with the auto pilot (as well as the auto-disabling thing at random times which is annoying!) is the "stop at every waypoint"!
I liked this system as it meant I could set up a route - say to collect a bunch of weapons or something from seperate systems.... however now the auto pilot just keeps going until the last waypoint (no matter what settings I change in the ap setup). Thgis of course can be 'worked around' by watching each system you jump into as u jump in to it... tho this gets annoying at times as I gotta remember lots of systems that way! ;-)

Thank you, Thank you very much. (Hopefully you'll be able to fix it too.....)
And I must congratulate you on actually posting a reply in a thread like this. It's encouraging and hopefully this is a sign of CCP actually starting to tell us what they are working on.

You sure that's really a Dev person? dunno.
But yeah, your right. I does seem to fail more often when your doing round-trips. And it can consistently fail on the same exact system every single time you jump to it during a round trip. You don't even have to generate round trip waypoints. All you have to do is set one- ways to produce the bugger.
Getting stuck still is the suck though. Fix that first.

CCP is busy. Every now and then they'll post like this, which is great, and people will start flipping out for joy thinking it's signalling the rise of a new era of customer communication. It isn't.
Don't get your hopes or expectations up. Yes, they read the forums, no, they don't post often, and yes, it is frustrating as hell for the playerbase because they wonder whether their comments or reports are being read. There's no real way around it, though, short of CCP hiring someone as a forum reader and customer relations liaison.
Oh wait... they already did. So what happened to her? ......

The only problem I've had so far is the problem where the autopilot thinks the current system is also the next system in your route. Trying to open the map will usually change the system it thinks, but in my case didn't fix the problem.
Unfortunately I have no log of this behaviour yet. I'll try and reproduce it later with a log.
The problem with the route not clearing properly seems fixed, and I haven't yet got stuck at a gate due to the jump command going off too early.

Hell yeah it still does this..
Ok.. Here's what you do to reproduce the problem.
1)Set a Destination(not waypoint) from point A to point B.. Do a minimum of 4 jumps between the two. Then use autopilot to get to point B
2)Once autopilot is disabled because there are no waypoints. Set a Destination from point B to point A. So you end up back where you started.
Now.. All you have to do is go back and forth over and over. I will always get a mixed up confused route if I go back and forth like this.
Also.. Someone mentioned that you just open the map to fix this problem. Well that's not always possible. Sometimes when your autopilot stops working due to a route confusion, the map will simply not open.
The way I will fix it, aside from restarting the game. I will just use my bookmarks to change the destination, then use the bookmarks to switch back. That temporarily fixes it. The only way to truly fix it, is to restart the game though.

torfiFrans... WHICH patch? I reported it as still broken, with .lwb on 1126. I'm currently flying all over getting dizzy seeing if I can recreate it in 1128.
Has any code changed between 1126 and 1128 for this? Am I wasting my time .

I'd do a Bug Report but hitting the submit button gives me "The document contains no data.".
So, here goes, the zip file is available at http://www.miggy.org/games/eve/1128-ap-bug.zip:
Patch 1128 (patched version by version since, oh I dunno, 1022?)
This is the much whined about AutoPilot bug, reproduced THREE times, and it seems I've nailed down exactly how to get it to happen on command:
I'd gotten it to happen once after MUCH flying around and it not happening. I'd just been at Dakba, docked, set a waypoint to Nererut, got there and docked, then set a waypoint back to Dakba WHILST STILL DOCKED, then launched. The screenshot shows the state of things. I'm at Nererut and it thinks my destination is Nererut, and the next hope Sitanan, which is the PENULTIMATE system in the 4 hops (next to Dakba, NOT next to Nererut). LogServer file: 1128-ap-bug.lbw Screenshot of F11 map showing it: 1128-ap-bug.jpg
Ok, so I logged off to try and re-create this from scratch in the other direction. Steps taken:
0) Make sure no waypoints set, exit Eve. 1) Edit prefs.ini, remove all lines with "waypoint". 2) Start up, log in, clear logserver file 3) F11 for mini-map (I keep it open hereafter). 4) I'm at Nererut, docked in 8-2 station. 5) Set waypoint to Dakba (4 jumps away) 6) Exit station (shortcut) 7) Enable Autopilot (shortcut) 8) Make the journey, using MWD to get to gates fast 9) AP disables at Dakba after jump in. 10) Dock at Dakba 7 station 11) Whilst docked set waypoint back to Nererut. 12) Exit station (shortcut) 13) Enable Autopilot (shortcut) 14) It now thinks the next system is Rasile, which is actually 3 hops away. The line on the F11 mini-map even goes from Dakba to Rasile (and then back along the route from Rasile to Dakba!) LogServer file: 1128-ap-bug-again.lbw No Screenshot, I forgot, but it's the same as above, just 'reversed'.
Ok, so let's try and get the time to reproduce as small as possible. Do just a 2 hop route:
0-3) as Above 4-5) At Dakba 7, set waypoint to Thebeka, 2 hops away. 6-8) As Above 9) Arrive at Thebeka, AP disables 10) Dock at 6-19 station. 11) Whilst docked set WP back to Dakba 12) Exit station (shortcut) 13) Enable Autopilot (shortcut) 14) Now thinks destination is Thebeka (um, I'm there), but does correctly think the next hop is Sitanan. Needs more hops to show it clearly. The Chaos server then went down before I could actually make the jump and confirm the AP just sat there after. LogServer file: 1128-ap-bug-again-2hop.lbw Screenshot of F11 map showing it: 1128-ap-bug-again-2hop.jpg
