I'm of the opinion that when someone comes to the forums and raises an issue on the premise that it "hurts new player" that that individual is full of ****.
They're just upset that whatever overpowered thing they were using or doing got nerfed.
Especially when everything CCP has done over the years has been nothing but good for new players.
Not to mention almost everything the op listed has nothing to do with "new players". |

Some things are buffed too, but people tend to care only about what is nerfed. No |

OP made a thread about a bunch of nerfs. Does this make him a nerf herder? |

The tengu is pretty well in line with the other T3's now. Maybe you should be calling for buffs for the garbage ships.
Maybe I should.....but instead I'm calling for you to gag on a meat puppet. |

I don't hate nerfing. I hate when they nerf the wrong things.
The 2 most broken things in the game are 1) off-grid links and 2) movement options for the 'blob'
If CCP wants to nerf something, why haven't they nerfed either of those?
You nerfed my solo tengu, I can live with that if you also nerf the blue donut. Oh wait, half of CCP is ex-goon, I guess that won't happen anytime soon. |

Off-grid links will be nerfed first by reducing the max bonus to 3%, and they will remove off-grid links the moment they find a technical solution (according to Fozzie the actual code implementation is the only thing holding back OGB nerf).
But what are these "wrong things they nerfed"? Is that an objective "wrong", or just Tengu-related?

Nerfs are the "easy way" for a video game company to contentate some players or "correct" some broken gameplay rules.
Unfortunately we are speaking about CCP, and that is why nerfs are bad. Most of the time, they nerf too hard and the worst consequence of this is that they remove diversity from the game because they make their "victim" useless by doing it. Also, they are proud of their nerfs and refuse to correct when it is wrong, and even if they want to correct sometimes, their patching politic make it nearly impossible.
There was speed tanking in Eve. Pretty overpowered in his time yes, but they couldn't easily kill big ships and it required to be specialized. They nerfed it so much that it was removed from Eve, now it is mostly tanking blobs...
Today, when we speak about some modules like Remote Sensor Dampener or Nosferatus etc, most of the players don't know that this modules exist. They was nerfed too, and too much of course.
And one big exemple of broken gameplay nerfing was the so-called "amarr boost". To boost Amarr weapons, they removed some resistance points on the shield (explosive) and on armor (EM), this on mostly all ships of ALL races... but by doing that, they made a boost of Amarr AND Matar, and they nerfed more the shield than the armor giving so a kick to Caldari. Of course, players told them what was flawed in it, but CCP are/was too proud to make few correction to make it ok...
And last exemple, if I remember well, the Quantum expansion made some changes on missiles. Not really bad changes, but the rocket was hit too hard that they was nearly totaly broken. CCP corrected it... nearly FOUR YEARS after the release of the expansion, even if they knew it from the beginning... The trouble of the update politic of CCP is that it permit them to forget some needed balancing changes, or at best, don't permit them to make it fastly. If only there was frequent, small patchs dedicaced for balancing, it wouldn't be a problem.
Now there are about to give ships a "role" and balancing the game this way, making a ship in a category pretty much the same than the ones of the others races. I can understand that, as they made too much bad nerfs before that they don't have a choice, it would require too much time to correct everything they broke.
The trouble is not about nerfing, as it is needed to permit some needed corrections with small time and effort. It is about nerfing BY CCP. |

How are your examples related to the last couple of years?
Look at the recent, conservative balancing objectively and you'll realize that CCP has learned from their past mistakes.

CCP has to balance everything to ensure fairness. Often when something is changed, they have to wait a while and assess the effect this has on the game. Often this leads to nerfing, as the means to ensure fairness and balance again. Of course, people are going to complain about that, especcially the ones it directly effects. But, to be perfectly honest, EvE players complain about EVERYTHING anyway. Pretty much any change is resisted and complained about to a degree, some more than most.
I've always thought it was due to the higher average age of EvE players. You can't teach a old dog new tricks, and all that. Post with your main, like a BOSS! |

nerfing happens in all industries, i mean if there are'nt changes to the game on a regular basis, good chance there would be layoffs at CCP seen it happen in dozens of industries . food industry is a great example . how often does the packaging change, lots where i live , just marketing guys worried about losing there jobs convince ceo time for a change 12 months more work for them. just one big cycle and we the consumer simply have to put up with it |
