BEWARE: LONG POST
Not entirely sure of where to put this, so I'll just put it here.
I'm looking into making some videos using EVE, preferably in 1080p [my monitor's resolution], and at least 30 fps [although 60 would be awesome]. I won't be averse to jumping down to 720p though, if needed. It won't be of anything particularly stressful, just undocking, warping, and jumping.
I've tried FRAPS, it doesn't have a 720p recording option, and doesn't like 1080p in the slightest. It's OK with 540p.
I've tried Dxtory too. It likes 1080p, but it drops frames left right and centre. 720p is good for the most part, but it still drops frames just before entering warp [I'm aware it'll drop frames during session changes - like jumping, docking/undocking, etc]. Dxtory has many more options when it comes to encoders, buffering, and hardware settings.
I tried installing CamStudio too, but that got to 95% and just... stopped. Unsure what's going on there.
I also tried xFire. I've heard it is pretty basic, but I wasn't able to get it to work [couldn't figure out what the "record video" hotkey was - and it had no option to change it]
I also tried Microsoft Expression Encoder. It's incredibly easy to setup and get started with, but from my short experience using it, it's primarly used for desktop recording [not games], which is unfortunate, as it has the best UI for this I've seen so far. It doesn't have any options for recording size. Although you can set it to record just a certain part of the screen
With everything turned on, and at max, I can pull in about 170fps. When I drop AA, it jumps to around 300, of course this drops to 30 frames when recording. I'm trying to avoid reducing anything else as I'm using EVE more as a visualiser, so I need it looking as pretty as possible
PC Specs: Intel Core i5-2500 [NOT the "K" version] 8GB [2x4GB] Corsair Vengeance Blu RAM Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1GB 1x Corsair Force 3 60GB SSD [for Windows and other programs - NOT GAMES] 2x Western Digital Caviar Green WD20EARX 2TB 6Gbps HDD
1 HDD is used for my "Users" folder, along with games. The other is used only for Videos [Movies, TV Series etc]. This is where the raw video files are saved, as it's the only drive that's not in use when gaming. They're not in RAID
I'm pretty sure my CPU is the main bottleneck hardware-wise, but I'm next to positive there's a workaround here. And I don't have Gé¼300 to buy an i7 right now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
For reference, I tried recording BF3 using FRAPS. It didn't like Full-size, so I switched to Half-size, forgetting that 720p isn't half of 1080p. I was able use Adobe Premiere to up-scale the video into 720p, and it still looked surprisingly good. You'll notice in the video linked, that it stutters - particularly at 0:41 seconds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssT_ccG-r8Q. I can't record at 540p though, because EVE is pretty text-heavy, and generally text does not like being scaled down or up.
PS. CCP, if you add a record function to the game that allows us to disable UI elements among other things after the fact, that'd be awesome. Also, when you disable the UI, the NeoCom and Modules HUD reappear after jumping. Rather annoying tbh |
