As I understand it, frigs have lower base targeting ranges than Cruisers, which have less targeting range than BS etc... I'd like to know why a NPC (1,250 isk) can target me 85k out? I'm in a MOA atm and I just can't see why this should happen. Any explanation would be appreciated.

i was being targeted by sansha frigs from over 200k away last night

Npc's cheat.
They cheat horribly.

yup - frigs target me 150km away as well - but they don't shoot at that range, so hu cares? tis slightly more annoying with BSs with cruise missiles hu can shoot, but they are meant to be able to target this far, so its ok.
whats more annoying bout NPCs is that they appear to have trained the new missile skills up to lvl20

NPC's have wholly different stats and abilities tehn players.
It compensates for their lack of a brain.

NPCs have 150km max locking distance. But it doesn't matter because they only fire when they get within firing distance. Each enemy has an "entity attack range" which is like our maximum targetting distance in that they will only ever be able to attack when they're closer than that range.

Unfortunately it seems that once they start to attack they don't stop even if you get outside their range.

they dont just cheat with range either....
