Well, I'll spare you the details, but things are bad and I really need to blow off some steam. My preferred way of doing this is by firing up a game (SP, I don't do much MP and doing it when angry would be bad) that calms me down through sheer violence or simply by distracting me for a bit.
So, dear OOPE, what's your game of choice when you feel the urge to kill something?
Should obviously be something simple that you fire up for half an hour or so and make (or lose) no progress whatsoever. Hell, it doesn't even have to be violent, and conversely a fast-paced violent game might not work. Example: the old NFS:MW works fine, Hotline Miami does not. (sooo close, but no cigar) Truly, you have a dizzying intellect. |

Grand Theft Auto. Nothing soothes the soul like a romp in the park with a hooker, only to then run over said hooker, retrieve cash from corpse of said hooker, then lead a merry chase thru town with the army behind you. Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |

i play total war games when upset. it produces a high level of sattisfaction to crush an enemy army on the field, leave the corpses for the crows then invade a city and sack it for everything it's worth. i'm a regular joan of arc. |

Wow, how could GTA slip my mind... They're perfect, all of them (except possibly IV, because I haven't played it. Can't remember why). Thanks!
Total war... Now there's a series I've never even touched. I'm sure they're excellent, but I find 4X-style stuff boring, and no matter how hard I try I always end up far too defensive in RTS. It's a viable style in some games, but doesn't give me the release I need. If I've misunderstood what TW is about, let me know.
I've calmed down somewhat now, but it would be useful to have something to do the next time I get seriously frustrated (won't be long ) , so keep going guys. Truly, you have a dizzying intellect. |

Currently having a bit of a bad day myself, but picked up the Dragonborn addition to Skyrim and laying into people with two handed weapons is as satisfying as ever. Ah, started a new playthrough of Skyrim just the other day (rogue is my standard style, but went mage now). Dragonborn definitely seems worth looking into (once I've leveled up a bit), even though it's a bit on the expensive side for DLC... Truly, you have a dizzying intellect. |

They added social networking in IV. In other words you stared at your phone all day long because your needy ******* friends wont leave you alone to cause general mayhem throughout the city. It was a pretty major turn off for me and I generally love the series. However a very suitable replacement would be Saints Row the Third.
I usually get in to planetside 2 as a recon and go find a nice quiet hill at a hotspot and boomheadshot players at the vehicle pads. |

Had my doubts too, but they really put a lot of work into it. "In the void is virtue, and no evil. Wisdom has existence, principle has existence, the Way has existence, spirit is nothingness." ~Miyamoto Musashi |

For some visceral and satisfying action, try the Mount & Blade games. They may look like wet cardboard, but leading a cavalry charge into an infantry line and chasing down that last enemy deserter on the field of battle will definitely nurture your primal blood-urges.
If you want some more arcadey action based on the same style of sword-swinging, you could look into Chivalry and War of the Roses, though I haven't played either of them. Amarrad - Amarr language project |

i believe you may have.
total war games are not rts. there are rts elements. but it's not "oh got to go gather resources faster than the competition and go zerg them!" which is pretty much what all rts games always were to me. it's real city control, territory control. real strategy like controlling tactical locations such as river crossings. crushing enemy income by blockading or pirating trade ports, destroying farms, scorched earth tactics. and the battles themselves...are awesome. controlling ground. taking hills and raining arrows (or muskets depending which game we are talking about) down on enemies. hit and runs with cavalry charges (all of the games so far). mowing down lines of enemy troops with a well disciplined phalanx (rome and presumably the upcoming rome 2). researching technological and tactical advances like fire by rank and fire and advance (empire and napoleon and fall of the samurai) massive ship battles. being aware of possible family betrayals. using agents like diplomats and spies and assassins to covertly weaken or cozen up to the enemy or take out a rival general.
it's a very rich series. and each game just seems to get better and better. i'm super excited for rome 2.

Sometimes I like to load up GTA IV with the heavy car mod and then proceeded to mow down every car on the road and watching them fly helplessly into the distance.

Teamfortress 2 works nice, or Halo. Something with recoil where you can mow down and smite enemies in the name of the God Emperor or something like that....
Also watching Ponies works after hating all humanity while exposed the public for extended periods of time...

Taiko no Tatsujin is pretty good for blowing off steam if you have the drum controller. Outside that unlikely circumstance, playing a pugilist in Skyrim or Fallout is pretty satisfying. Lots of face tenderizing, headbutts, etc.
