Don't understand why stealth bombers have a 15 second recalibration period when uncloaking pretty much rendering them as useless?
I forgot and found out the hard way couldn't lock a thing.
Doh! Bad idea CCP!

I'd like that will every cloaking system.
Imagine what a Deimos would do if it could have you locked and scrambled before you had a chance to do anything.

Personally, I think the Stealth Bombers need a Combat Cloaking module, that reduces recalibration and recloak times...

I dont think there should be a recalibration period, nor sig resolution penalties. The speed penalty alone is more than enough to make most ships not use them.

The speed penalty is only when you are cloaked Sobe

speed penalty is only when cloaked
sig penalty is all the time when it is fitted (even if it is offline i believe)
sensor recalibration time is the time after the ship uncloaks before it can FINISH making a lock
this means that u can start locking as soon as u uncloak, and as long as the lock doesn't finish before the end of the recalibration time, u will get a lock (useful on my stealth raven)
this is at least how it works to the best of my knowledge, tho i haven't used a cloak since cold war

Edited by: Grey Area on 18/07/2005 13:16:46 Let's try from the opposite point of view...
If a stealth bomber had no recalibration time, how would you kill it? It would drop cloak, fire, recloak, and that would be it.
So, are you REALLY asking for an indestructible ship? If so, that's just sad...
And what are you referring to by "speed penalty"? Covert ops ships can use the covert ops cloak which gives NO speed penalty. ========================================= * I'm ALLOWED to cheat. I'm a STARSHIP. * ========================================= |

Except that if you did that now your missiles wouldn't do damage anymore so you have to stay uncloaked until the target gets hit :)

 News to me

Stealth bomber is a covert ops ship...so why can't it use the cloak? Must admit I don't have one (bomber), but sounds stupid that it can't use it. ========================================= * I'm ALLOWED to cheat. I'm a STARSHIP. * ========================================= |

Thought they fixed it so that you can't cloak unless all modules have finished their run (missile bays finished loading next round etc).
Might be wrong tho, haven't flown a bomber. ********** Everyone deserves to die. You go first. |

i think you're looking at the stealth bomber 'ass about face'. you're right about the problem with the recalibration time being a problem if you're camping cloaked and you want to decloak and fire your cruises. but you can't warp with the cloaking device on anyway so if you're not camping the sequence of events would be: warp in uncloaked. acquire target and fire your missiles then cloak. this makes the stealth bomber rather useless against targets that can't be killed by 2 cruises (3 for the caldari SB) but many of the Stealth Bomber threads have already come to the conclusion that Stealth Bombers are only useful in groups anyway. so with a fleet of Stealth Bombers fire then cloak as oppose to uncloak then fire eliminates the recalibration problem. of course cloaking after firing is only useful when you're in enemy territory to avoid re-inforcements arriving and drawing your SB fleet into a battle that SB's just won't win (they seem to be made out of the same brand of tissue paper as your average destroyer). divide and conquer.

Well, the Covert Ops Cloaking Device II requires 5000 CPU if I remember right. Proper Covert Ops frigates get a bonus to reduce this huge CPU requirement by up to 100% depending on the level you have the Covert Ops skill at. This bonus comes from the ship, not by the Covert Ops skill itself. Stealth Bombers don't have this bonus, therefore they're stuck to Prototype or Improved Cloaking Devices. Which makes sense considering their Covert Ops skill bonus (25% improved cloaked speed per level or something). But I do agree they should be able to use the Covert Ops Cloaking Device.

If bombers could use the covert ops cloak it would make regular cov ops ships usless. As who would use one if you could use one that has cruise launchers?
The cloaks are fine atm, tho i agree something needs to be done about the bombers, maybe like was suggested above a combat cloaking device, or just give it a skill that lets you lock faster

Let Stealth bombers use Cov Ops cloaks and you have made the Covert Ops ships redundant. The Stealth Bomber has another purpose and is mean't to work WITH the Covert Ops ship.
This is how it works (according to me) : Covert Ops ship warps in cloaked and positions itself for others to warp in on him. The stealth bombers (notice plural) warps in on the Covert Ops ship, fire the cruise missiles, cloak and run away to a safe distance, then uncloak and warp away.
Looking at certain factors here : Cruisemissiles are not really that devastating, so there isn't much a group of Stealthbombers can kill in a surprize attack really. Also, the cloak has very little use since they can just warp in, fire and warp out and not use the cloak at all. Perhaps we all just have the wrong idea about their actual use. Perhaps they are just frigates that are mean't to support battleships by warping in, dealing some damage, put on the cloak to avoid getting pwned. They are not mean't for surprize attacks, they are simply just pocket-sized bombers with the ability to hide themselves in the middle of the fight. Too bad no one is producing and selling them for a fair price, because Im sure they were supposed to be cheap.
