Hi all ive been thinking about what set up to use with my tempest and think i will go for Shield tank since i dont have alot of skills in the mechanic secttion of the skill table :)
so it would look something like this
high slot :6 1400 2 assault
med : painter 2 harderners XL booster and AB
low 5 PDU's and one Gyro2
has anyone tried this setup that can give me some feedback .im gonna use it for NPC hunting and fleet battles mostly . i know there are some setups in the setup section of the board but they are rather outdated since the patch, and i havent really seen any recent setups for my purpouse .

you need more range i'd say, with a sensorbooster.
All i want for cristmas is a typhoon with launcher rof bonus :) |

Why tank at all:
For NPCing warp @80-100km and shoot everthing that moves....very simple

have you actually tried that? 6 Guardian Veterans at the warp-in point will eat you faster than you can say wtf.

I would suggest this:
Fleet PVP:
H: 6 x 1400, 2 x Heavy Launcher / Assault / Rocket
M: 2 Sensor Booster II's, 3 Tracking II's
L: 5 x Gyro II's, RCU II
In fleet there is no point in tanking really as if you're called primary your dead pretty much, and if your not promary then you want all and everything put into hurting the enemy.
NPC: As suggested above, I would squeeze a Sensor booster on there for some more range.
I have tried this for high range NPC hunting, but I will stress that close range armor tank is much better (so give you something to aim your skills towards)
H: 6 x 1400 II, 2 x small launcher
M: 100MN AB, Medium Shield booster II, Painter, Tracking, Sensor Booster
L: 1 RCU II, 5 x Gyro II

I assume you got for pve with that? Because there is no reason to tank in fleet, since you it will make you last only second longer... and no reason to fit 1400mm's in small gang unless you gate-campin, in which case you need sensor boosters and trackin comps, not tank.
For pve you need at least 2 active hardeners (kinetic and multispec for angels). Also XL booster will kill you cap too fast (no matter how many pdu's you fit) and it useless on unhardened shield - I find large booster being best trade off between cap and shields (ie i run out of both around the same time). Also with just one gyro you'll have problems killin BS rats, so 5 gyros + 1 pdu is the way to go.

im gonna do missions aswell .and i dont like keeping it fragile like that to make a few percentage extra dmg or range - but thanks for your feedback anyways

I'm with maduncan. And yes we have tried it alot. Warp to 80-100k. fit for max damage and kill everything in a heartbeat.

As Fred0 said already: Tried that multiple times (with proper BM's bevor ColdWar), worked very well. Otherwise i wouldn't recommend it....
