Edited by: Lord Jaffa on 21/07/2005 20:55:49 I currently have gallente frigate 4 and cruiser 3, and only minimal gunnery skills to use medium turrents. However ammo is a total pain in the bum so im seriously considering switching to Amarr ships (apoc) and just training there. Am i stupid for thinking this or will it pay off in the end?

I sure love fitting turrents to my ship. I think I'll go out and get some turrents right now!

Oh be quiet, Selim. His one post made more sense than all of yours rolled together.
Lord Jaffa: Lasers have pretty big disadvantages too. For one, they are very, very easily armor-tanked. If you face a ship with one EM and one thermal armor hardener in a laser gunboat, you might as well be throwing cotton balls.

Its simply that so many people mis-spell this common word.

If I may without being insulting to someone obviously new to the game asking an honest question, I can only try and give an honest reply.
all guns are turrets first of all but not a biggie.
You're asking laser turrets vs ammo turrets?
as said all have some advantages and disadvantages, but I'll try to point some out for ya.
you do not need to have full cargos of crystal. lasers will allow you to have large cargo holds empty at your disposal to store captured loot which allows you to stay out and NPC hunt longer periods and simply throw out the stuff you do not want via jettison and keep on keeping on.
where as an ammo user will have to return to a base at some point in time and re ammo. As well as leaving to go hunting with large stockpiles and full cargoes of ammo.
The laser turret ship is not bound so terribly having to find a base to re ammo and re supply. Can allow more explorations into deeper areas, and you simply log off where your at.
then you also got the cost factor. all ammo costs money but it is a bit easier on the crystal user using small and medium crystals. large crystals are quite a bit more expensive to build than other large ammo types. they require much mega and zydrine to build a full large set.
All and all most ammo is relatively affordable but it is an expense and you can limit your expense with laser crystals a great deal in the begining comparing small and medium gun ammo costs.
In the begining your money and income is the tightest being you earn the smallest ammounts so even tho small and medium ammo is inexpensive, it your largest expense other than skill costs.
Most other ammo type turrets also tend to have better range than the laser turret of comparable use and the amarr ships also tend to have the shorter lockable ranges compared to other turret ships.
one thing nice about projectile turrets is they can do all types of damage where hybrids do only kinetic and thermal damage and lasers only do thermal and EM damage.
If you're looking to be a bit frugal with your ammo costs, yes go with lasers. Plus it is not so binding having to dock not and re ammo at all provided you already got your set in cargo.
It was and is an honest valid question.
My only pointer, Eve is a beautiful world to explore and an amazing game, just remeber it's trying to kill you.
I'm jotting down your char name and hopefully it is your main and real char, I will be sending you a little donation(to me it's a little donation, to you, you'll prolly s**t your knickers) to help you on your eve way some point over this weekend.
Good day and welcome to Eve. sorry one your first posts in the forums was so harshly commented on.

forgot: didn't want to edit as you may have missed it in all that garble.
And you can edit your first post to correct the mis spelling in the title of the thread.
you can edit any post actually but if it's the first post and you're the poster, you can edit the title in first post.
Might help calm the flood of unfriendly comments on ya.
Again welcome to the world of Eve.
