I don't believe CCP had a right to confiscate the ISK if they allowed the "John" to keep it in the first place.
CCP Sreegs said it was a mistake that they didn't take the money the first time around. It wasn't an intentional decision to allow the original character to keep the isk.
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2601402#post2601402 for him saying that.
Thanks for the link. I am still a little puzzled by the "mistake" they made by not confiscating the ISK right away. Regardless, justice was served and were down one less botter. Guess I should be happy.
1.) They had a "human moment". They neglected to remove the illicit gains when they initially suspended him, and they admitted that much. Blizzard has done it before in World of Warcraft, and I'm sure other companies have as well. Trust me, I'm one of the first to stand up, point and scream, "**** you CCP! You all are bad!" but in this, I'm willing to err on the side of human error.
2.) Kelduum didn't believe fully that the ISK was legitimate. He knew what had happened. He knew that there's a stigma attached. He
should know that in general, CCP won't suspend an account for botting unless they have legitimate proof. The fact that he actually petitioned it--and let me make this clear, I don't buy the "we have never received a donation this large before so I wanted to make sure it was legitimate and legal" excuse--shows as much.
If this person was such a stand-up person to begin with, Kelduum should have been able to take his claim at face value. He couldn't. He petitioned. Al this is, right now, is Kelduum throwing a temper tantrum because he couldn't have his cake and eat it, too.
3.) Hell, I'll be honest: Strike 1 is when botters will generally delete accounts, because now they're being watched. They've been caught. Whatdoes he do? He deletes the account ("biomass" or not, I don't care). CLassic "hand caught in the cookie jar" behavior, don't you agree?
In short, all this is is a member of the CSM trying to **** in CCP's Cheerios because he didn't get 100% of what he wanted. He wanted CCP to come back and say, "Yeah, it's legal, have fun!" He expected that since EVE University is such a large corporation and "well respected" he could play off that. CCP, in his eyes, was supposed to let them keep it so Kelduum could say, "We did nothing wrong, CCP said so!" But they didn't, and he'slashing out over this.
