Confirm, you could have booked a second venue adjacent / near to Harpa and increased event attendance further.

As mentioned elsewhere, flights and hotels have always been the big costs associated with Fanfest, so for those who can't afford the full package in December, you buy things as you can. Tickets have always been very easy to come by in the past, and the first official warning we had that tickets were getting low was the day they sold out, a week after the early bird ended and normal pricing began.
Also, you sure seem to love the word "mong". Go get some new insulting phrases, you know, switch it up a bit. Just a suggestion. |

what happened to the idea of renting both harpa and the old convention center, i seem to remember someone talking about that at last years fanfest, i'm almost sure it was CCP's fearless leader Hilmar.
would have cost little of nothing to run a bus between the venues, i'm sure all wouldn't have minded paying a small fee to shuttle back and forward.
being the 10th anniversary an all. |

I could see that, maybe next year once DUST has gone live, if they'd have a simultaneous FanFest with us.
However, that's a pretty decent distance to travel between sites, and you run the risk of possibly overbooking accomodations if the 11th Anniversary is substantially lower in turnout than this year. A better idea, if possible, is book another venue close to Harpa, to allow better accessibility by walking, plus then everyone's closer to hotels, bars, etc.
I remember walking from the convention center back to Nonni's once or twice, that was a hefty half hour of walking or so. |

Or you could have bought tickets when the event was announced if you wanted to go that badly.
Flights & hotels are a big cost, but a little common sense would tell you to buy the tickets to the overseas event you want to go to BEFORE buying flights & accomodation.
Apparently booking your flight & accomodation to Iceland BEFORE you buy the tickets for the convention which is pretty much the only reason you wanted to go there in the first place is popular. |

A better place & culture than America. Less fat people too.

So where can we find info about the stream such as cost etc? Will it be the same setup as last year? |

We will be offering some method of streaming FanFest this year for people who cannot attend. So what you're saying is, you expect me to lay in the comfort of my own bed with various refreshments and food items, and watch live streams from fanfest, without even having to put any clothes on, or fly to the opposite side of the globe? (I'm in Vancouver, Canada) What next, you're going to tell me that I don't have to bathe either to get all the glorious details on CCP deciding to revamp POSes afterall considering it's the most playerbase requested feature? From what I understand, bathing is not a requirement even if you do attend...
I've also heard rumors from groups I won't name (Dirtnap squad) that they planned to show up at fanfest wearing diapers and carrying baby rattles. Did this ever happen with said group/s I will not name? (DNS) |

I'm from America where everything is big. Let me know how many trees are required to triple the size of the venue and we will send you one of our forests. If Iceland is too small we can also send over one of the rocky mountains to make more land--they just get in our way most of the time anyway. |

There are two ways you can make arrangements: you could book event tickets first and then accommodation, or you could book accommodation first and then event tickets.
There is a catch: event tickets are often sold as little as six months in advance. Accommodation on the other hand can be booked a year in advance, and the price rises faster as you get closer to the desired date. Thus you might be able to book a luxury apartment for Gé¼400 for the entire week if you book 12 months ahead of time, while a one-star hotel room booked a week before the event will cost you the same amount. My partner and I booked our accommodation within a few hours of CCP announcing the actual dates for FanFest (which was long before the FanFest tickets were available for purchase).
Now I will be the first to admit that leaving your FanFest ticket bookings till three or four months after they were put up for sale is probably foolish, but there is nothing wrong with booking accommodation ahead of time as long as you purchase the event tickets as soon as they are available. If you miss out on FanFest 2013 tickets but have already booked flights and accommodation, you could always take part in the unofficial meetups through #tweetfleet on Twitter.
And then there's the issue that Tippia raised: accommodation in Reykjavik during EVE Online FanFest 2013 is getting hard to find. Day 0 advice for new players: Day 0 Advice for New Players |

Iceland didn't waste tax money bailing out banks so that the banks could get back to being stupid.
It's worth noting that Iceland's population is about 300,000. That means an event of sufficient size to fill Harpa will involve about 0.33% of the population. Imagine if you wanted to hold an event of similar scale in New York City: you would have to find accommodation for about a million people. The largest events that New York City is capable of hosting are limited by the sizes of their stadiums, which will top out at a few hundred thousand participants.
So based on your assertion the USA fails at being a country capable of hosting entertainment events. Even worse is when you realise that New York's largest stadium is MetCity Stadium at about 80-ish thousand seats, and that is actually in Noo Joysee. You should always buy the cheaper thing first, in this instance the ticket. Then if you fail to secure flights or a hotel, you've only lost a small amount of cash and can probably just sell it on to someone else. Book flights and hotels before you've got the ticket and you're left with a non-refundable fight to a hotel for nothing, not to mention looking like a fool. I found all the people that did this quite amusing when they started ranting at CCP, like it was their fault that they were so stupid.
Just goes to show how awesome CCP are that they're willing to go out of their way to accommodate for them. Post with your main, like a BOSS! |

This thread was all about pointing out that more wanted to go to fanfest. it was not about people making a how to guide on going to fanfest and how one should book tickets or flights or even hotels and when they should be booked and in what order.
last year it was mentioned that if there was a bigger demand for more tickets, considering ccp where aware of the dust players joining in that ccp might hire out the old convention center and run a shuttle service between harpa and Laugardalsholl.
i was wondering if this might happen, nothing more. we already got an answer from a dev so chill.
thanks for all your replies o/
BTW: those that are going,, cya all there |
