Each issue E-ON (the official EVE magazine that lately seems to have sole dominion over Dev Blogs) will publish player-created screenshots. Not just any screenshots, but screenshots that are beautifully staged, capture intense moments, display battles that are full of explosive action or panoramas of unexplained phenomenon that are unique in all of EVE space. (Not bugs, a Bestower wearing an asteroid like an afro is mildly amusing, granted, but it doesnÆt qualify.) In short, we want screenshots that youÆd be proud to have blown up, printed out and hung on a wall. Before you take your shot, ensure you have the EVE client running a maximum resolution, full screen and on full detail with the UI turned OFF (toggle with ALT-F9). Think about how you frame your shot and the composition of colour and light. Move the camera by holding down the right-mouse button and moving the mouse. If a ship is the focus of the shot, have it doing something, or at least, have some movement around it. Then, say æcheeseÆ and press PRINT SCREEN. (For those that donÆt know, screenshots are saved as . PNG files in the \capture\screenshots\ of your EVE directory.) Note down the region and system you are in when you take the shot. If a battle, note also what gate, station or planet you are near and the Corporations and/or Alliances involved. Write approx 50-80 words on the scene (no essays please), starting with the location (system, region). Feel free to role-play it a bit (imagine youÆre writing a caption for a newspaper image). If itÆs a battle/mining/convoy scene, mention the Corp/Alliance name. No hidden smacktalk or bragging though - that would unprofessional of a budding photojournalist ;). Finally, put your player name at the end. DonÆt worry about the date; if you donÆt rename the screenshot we can ascertain the date from that. If youÆre not confident of your writing abilities, donÆt worry, weÆll help out. This is about the image, not the words. Here are some rushed and entirely made-up examples for the wordy bits:
W-RFUD (GREAT WILDANDS) - The old Caldari station that once stood guard over the Macabre Straits was once a base of operations for the Guristas before a CONCORD fleet put it out of commission. Now it drifts empty and forlorn on a slow and final journey towards the sun. Local nomads persist that Caldari-Jove experiments were carried out here and that ghosts of patients roam the broken corridors. Image by Zapatero
BERSYRIM (KADOR) û Loaded with much-needed fuel destined for deep space mining operations, a Galactic Combine convoy is ambushed by pirate AltCor Frigates. Combat losses were significant on both sides but the convoy survived with minimal damage. Image by Zapatero
TOLLE (EVERYSHORE) - Supported by a trio of allied Heavy Assault ships, Covetor Mining Barges of the Bored Stupid Brigade set about harvesting scordite and veldspar after BSB CEO Tarquim Otta announces his intention to corner the local mineral markets. Within 24 hours three asteroid fields were stripped bare, much to the annoyance of the regional mining authority. Image by Zapatero Please accept that only a few of the very best screenshots will be published each issue, so thereÆs no need for explorers to go on an exploratory bender. Simply if youÆre in a place of fabled beauty, fly part a vast mining op or find yourself flying a frozen corpse during a spectacular fleet engagement, just take a snap û not forgetting to ramp up the resolution first.
Submissions can be emailed to me at [email protected] and IÆll get back to you close to publication date. For Issue #1 we are accepting submissions, although time is short (days not weeks).
Thanks again for your time. Happy snapping!

question:
Are these going to be TQ limited?
As it can be hard to get around there so i for one would have greater intrest if we are allowed to venture around and use sisi for this.

Photoshop editing can work out pretty well. If it hasn't been decided yet, I'm just saying, no reason why not allow it, right?

Hmm - That would be too much for E-ON I think but
This I think should be allowed

For the explorers out there, images from SiSi would be fine. No point getting your ship blown up just for a nice piccy. Anything involving other players however (battles, convoys etc), the images should be taken on Tranquility. The reason is that unless it happens on Tranq, it hasn't happened, if that makes sense .

A well edited image can look stunning, I agree, but as much as these 'postcards' are there to look nice, I also want them to show EVE as it really is and events that have really happened. Again, my reasoning is that readers will see an image of a place in EVE and will immediately want to see it for themselves in-game - if it's not there, it will be dissapointing (whether they find it is anothet matter). For the moment let's assume that adding new entities into images is off-limits, but some minor effects wouldn't hurt. I'll get back to you on this one.

...of course we could get around the reality issue by not revealing the system, instead terming it 'CLASSIFIED / LOCATION WITHHELD', or something.
Just thinking aloud. What would you guys prefer; pretty or real?

Real and only real IMO. No use advertising something that doesn't actually exist.

I'd prefer real. EVE looks good enough without having to edit it. However if it *had* to be edited for whatever reason, then it should be noted that it was edited.

So.. would this (warning 2mb) be the sort of thing you're looking for?
Does it have to be a full screen screenshot? What counts as a maximum resolution? (I normally run in windowed and 1280x960; the above screen was taken in Full and 2048. Crippled my FPS, though. Don't think my video card is intended for that res.)

Agreed. Yes, that sort of thing. Personally I wouldn't have any ships in shot, but that's just me.

I have not seen this information anyplace, but i have a question about the publication. Pretty sure ive read that to get a corp advertisement into this thing it will cost RL money and not ISK. So any rough guess as to how much money an advert would cost? 20 bucks.. 100.. 300 just a very rough estimate as to what we are looking at.

What counts as "max res"? If you mean just the highest res you can go, ok yay. But if its that it has to be 1600x1200 or over or something like that... Booo, stupid LCD

Ideally 1600x1200, but you're free to send it lower-res shots as we may have more images per page if they are good enough.
Some very good images so far, btw, keep 'em coming

Use windowed mode, set to 1600x1200.

Thank you to everyone who submitted a screen image. It was tricky picking out images to use, not only because of the high quality of most of them, but because we had to consider a range of themes and colours. Anyway, we have a full quota now so you can leave your Print Screen key in peace for the moment. Remember to take a few now and then as we will be accepting images for Issue #2 in due course. - Z

it's possible to activate the ship skin display for all ranges when taking a screenshot ? it's hard to take a picture of a group of ships : if you aren't close to them they appear as dots.

It sure would be nice for taking screenshots. Maybe a special screenshot key that draws in everything regardless of distance when you take the shot? -==- Holy-Jim> as you know, surprise is the key to victory.....surprise! LooseCannoN> ahh! LooseCannoN> my plans have been foiled! |
