A single small smarty as drone/frig defense in High Sec. Yeah, yeah I know it sounds like lunacy, but if you're quite far away from everyone but "your dance partner", no belts, no mission deadspace trash, it seems like it could be a possibility. The other choice would be a small neut I suppose, but the smarty seems it would be more effective. No doubt that eventually you're going CONCORDOKEN, I'm just wondering if anyone has gone bonkers and tried it.

A single small smarty wont be very useful against anything, a small neut would be a better choice. |

Well, just to continue the thread, it does add 10 DPS which, if I'm doing my guessing correctly, would nuke a Drake's drones in what, a minute or so? Given the ship's limitations vs drones, I can see where that could be somewhat useful, particularly vs a swarm of light drones. If it did nothing other than drive them back to their controller's drone bay, I suppose that would be useful. The small neut while handy vs most frigates really only helps against a single frigate.

I'm not sure 10 dps will break the passive recharge on drones ;_; |

I don't know either, but EFT shows an unbonused Hobgob II at all 5s as having a shield recharge of 250 with shields of 83.75, so I think it would get through it.
Full disclosure here, this is pure theory-crafting in the hopes of getting some ideas and perhaps actual experiential accounts or advice.

A single small smartbomb might not kill a flight of lights in a reasonable time, but it might make the drone's pilot recall/rerelease them, which would get you a bit of time without drone DPS on you (assuming the other pilot isn't right on top of you, because then it takes no time at all to recall/rerelease drones).
I wouldn't use it in high-sec though. |
