Im thinking of getting a harpy soon, and i was thinking of how good the range bonus would be using blasters not the standard 150mm setup, with the abundance of mid slots as well, im sure i could fit a tracking puter to give the range even more of a boost :), i like to fight v.close, but my ammar AF dont do much for me, and im far away from any other race AF atm. Has any1 tried this, and what are there results, thanks

Blasters work but only against bigger targets and probably in a group too. The harpy is a seriously slow ship and so smaller ships can outrun it. Only cruiser-BS can't really outrun it and if you leave the MWD off, they'll be able to pop you on approach. If you leave the MWD on, then they will probably pop you on approach anyway. Worth a try, but a very risky setup

I run lvl 3s in the Harpy with blasters equipped at all times. The setup I have works very well and I have alot of fun. I use:
Hi: 4x modal light neutron blaster 1x arby rocket launcher OR 1x arby standard launcher
Med: 1x Gistii frig 1MN AB 1x Gistii Shield Boost 1x Shield boost amp 1x cap recharge II
Low: 1x PDU II 1x magnetic stab II
I use antimatter ammo and do most of my fighting at around 2k distance. Sometimes I get webbed, but most of those mobs stay at a distance of about 8k. In that case, I switch to iron ammo.
That setup works really well except for the instances where a really fast ship gets into orbit at less that 1k and webs me. Things get kinda scarry at that point. Those ships seem fairly succeptable to rockets, though. Also I have halfway decent skills, which means I can hit things(barely) that other might not be able to. I only have about 12.6 mil skill points. My setup is alot of fun.

Thats a very expensive, very poor setup.
Switch to 125mm IIs with antimatter.
Using blasters throws away 2 of the harpy's bonuses for no real gain. It's stupid.

This setup does the trick for me for lvl3s. I have 125s but I prefer blasters. If it gets he job done, and I have fun, what's so stupid about it? I don't get it.
I like the tracking of the blasters, also.

Rails vs ceptors on Assult frigs suck, thts why i kill so many assult frigs with my ceptor.
However, blasters on a AF = Death and destruction to my ceptor.

Eh? So an inty that can keep you at 15km with a +1 20km scram can hack away and kill you or hold you indefinately until backup arrives when you have blasters. Where as if the AF has 125mm will rip an inty to shreads very quickly at 15km.
The only way your theory holds true is if your Inty is a Blaster inty, but thats a minority. So I think as a generalisation you statement is completely false.
In fact the opposite to your statement is exactly why most Harpy pilots fit rails and not Blasters.....
Additonally most Harpy pilots carry a 90% web and if an inty gets close the rails will still hit and open him a new view of the sky from his cabin.

The thing is that blasters do around 30% more dmg then rails (considering both using the same ammo). But as mentioned for longer range u have use Iron ammo in blasters which kinda nerfs ur dmg as rails still can use AM ammo.
In situation where u r certain that u r going to fight close range blasters are good but overall i will say go with rails.

Youd think that, wouldn't you.
