I trust the people in my corp.
I love some of the frigate and cruiser models. This point more than anything is subjective, and kills any argument you might have had.

The whiners who complain about and hate miners as the scum of the universe, yet like to buy and use all the items/ships/modules that exist in EVE and are created by us. They will point to the QEN and wail about how PVE is the biggest source of ISK to the economy, and I have yet to see one player that can show me a ship manufactured from pure ISK, or a POS that accepts ISK as fuel. |

At least he had a point of view which was directly pertinent to the topic at hand, your comparison of logic is flawed.
One contradiction off the top of my head is how piles and piles of new players start their careers thinking mining is the best option for making their first paycheck, but comparatively few day 1-3 players rock a cheapo salvage fit dispite the huge profit potential for early salvagers compared to early miners. Although this is likely just the difference between a new player who meets an experienced guide and one who strikes out solo too intimidated to ask for advice. One doesn't necessarily negate two. Eventually there are people you will likely trust, but blind trust is foolish.
Quote:2. "We want new players" - then - Rookie ships and starting frigates and cruisers really do look like the crappiest ship in the game.
Personally I disagree, there are some mid-tier and even higher tier ships that look terrible and definitely worse than the rookie ships. From a personal aesthetic, there are a couple of races who's ships just look bad to me.

See #1.
Only contradiction that springs to mind is. This is a game, games are supposed to fun. Eve has mining.

Lyris Nairn wrote:Thorn Galen wrote: Null sec to get rich, yet you could swear that highsec is richest by the way some comments in these forums are made. You should never, ever send a newbie into Nullsec.
I disagree entirely. Our alliance very frequently sees brand new players, less than a week old, become billionaires as a result of donations from other members, the preponderance of alliance subsidized programs catering to newbies, and the wealth of opportunities that anyone with the right information can exploit. Access to a group of friends, a wealth of data that documents much more about the game than the game itself does, and mentoring towards effectively doing whatever it is they want to do is how you make newbies feel welcome, keep them interested in the game, and see to their success. You get those things from a player corporation, not from going it alone. I mean, by all means, if you want you can certainly mine Veldspar or run Level 1 missions in high-security space for a few hours to finance your first Cruiser, then continue to slowly grind your way up from the bottom as you beat your head against a wall trying to figure things out for yourself; or, you can pod jump out to nullsec (or wherever your particular alliance or corporation lives) and enjoy the multiplayer experience. I wish that I had been in Goonfleet from day one, when I first picked up this game, instead of floating around, lost and confused, in a Merlin wondering why I kept dying during any mission against Sansha's Nation or the Blood Raiders. The truth is that a brand new player, with an established corporation or alliance to guide him, can make more ISK and have more fun in a week than a clueless idiot bumbling his way blindly through high-security space can make by himself in a year.
Yeah cause you totally recruit people as more than targets to gank from this game right? oh yeah you dont

I was listening to the Voices Podcast and doing some mining (Player v. Rock) and something along the lines of the cast got me thinking about why EVE seems to have some major contradicions that really do shoot it in the foot, and I am sure there are others with some, so for CCP (since there is this new openess with CCCP, er... CCP about communications) it may help to clear of the things that some players are all about with here.
Mine:
1. "TRUST NO ONE IN EVE" - then - "JOIN A CORP or the game sucks basically, and it does, I know I have been solo for 2yrs, but I am odd that way, I like suckage apparently.

Well spotted. One of the funniest ones to me is:-
"EVE'S GREAT BECAUSE LOSS REALLY HURTS" - vs- "IT'S JUST A GAME"
The resolution of the contradiction is of course that there's a sort of unspoken macho in EVE akin to drug machismo. Of course loss hurts, it's virtual loss that's supposed to feel a bit like real loss. But the quicker you can suck it up and recover your equilibrium and remember it's just a game, the more manly you are in EVE terms.

But is isn't it more correctly - Nordic Nerdic Sado-Masochism with just a dab of Pyro-Necroism in it? I think that would be a good name for a ship ingame.... "Nerdic Masochism" |

Punisher and Laser's fitting requirements compare to AC's:
Laser are the perfect weapon system to use on a Punisher. The inability of the punisher to dictate range is compensated by the range flexibility and high optimal of lasers. With its big cap pool and the bonus on laser cap cost, it's clear the punisher was build around the idea of using lasers. The problem is that laser cost a lot more to fit than AC. Which means that in order to use this kickass weapon system you penalies the very thing it's good at, its tanking ability.
To funniest part is that in order to maximize its most defining feature, its tank, you need to use the weapon system of its biggest enemy, the Minmatar...
That's my current one. And yes it's a copy/paste from a post I did a few minutes ago but it fitted well. *Get it? "fitted" like in fitting requir... ah nvm... |
