Hi folks, sorry to bother but.. Could anyone tell me with a full rack of 27% expanders & giant secure containers in the hold, which can hold more in total out of the Impel & Occator... I would do the math myself, however I know CCP's math is slightly different to the way mine tends to work out, and so need first hand which one wins..
Cheers

Impel is slightly higher, but only goes 10m/s base with the cargo expander's penalty. Occator goes a much more reasonable speed.

The math is easy:
base cargo * skill (1.25 at indy 5) * cargo expander (1.18 for expander I)
You just multiply the expander multplier for each one you have. So in the case of the Occator, you simply apply the 1.18 6 times if you have 6 expander Is.

With freighters and outposts about to pop up everywhere, you might consider choosing an industrial based on things other than sheer maximum capacity as it is about to mean significantly less.
Don't overlook the Mastodon and Bustard simply because they carry a little less, and absolutly don't forget about the other ships you get when you train up an indy skill: the blockade runners. I dismissed them as novelties, initially, but once you have one, you'll wonder how you lived without it.

Edited by: Expendable Soldier on 25/07/2005 06:27:39 Yea the Occator is definately the best t2 hauler in the game.... why? because it has more mid slots and can actually tank without having to sacrifice a low slot....
plus the occator goes faster.... plus it has more usuable resists.... it has kinetic and thermal resists which is what alot of NPC's and PC's use..... the impel has stupid explosive resists.. totally useless...
plus teh impel only gets like 1000 m3 more space with t2 expanders over the occator..... hardly makes up for all the other places the occator beats the impel.
The occator wins the t2 hauler contest hands down. Especially since it can shield tank ..... the dumb impel has to armor tank if it wants to tank and that means sacrificing a low slot... how lame.
Not only that but the occator weighs less so it gets more out of a MWD/afterburner.
Occator > Impel

Capacity is still king for things like mining ops.

Capacity is still king for things like mining ops. But the speed on the Impel cripples it bigtime.
Why did you quote me if you were going to ignore what I'd just said? Capacity means a little less when your MO is in the same system your refining outpost is. Even if you're hauling a few jumps, don't discount the effect that agility (i.e.: how fast you get into warp/accel) and speed have on your hauling rate. Even with marked belts, you're always going to have to manuver your indy into range for pickup. "Amount hauled over time" is the all-important, and unwritten stat: in a MO, you're NOT just making one trip. The Occator and Impel can potentially carry more in a trip, but the Bustard and Mastodon (more so) largely close the gap by being faster, and can do the job while tanking much more effectively.

The following figures are calculated with all Local Hull Conversion Expanders in all the low slots.
Since tech 2 expanders are either not out yet or super-hyper-insanely rare, itĘs not exactly worth figuring on a fitting that you canĘt really have (yet)
