if indeed that's possible.
i just had 2 months away from EVE and everything has changed. Is there a workable PvP fitting for the Ares now? It seems to have too little grid.

It sucks just as bad as always, unless there is a step below "complete waste of money" on the suck scale.

I doubt CCP are ever going to un-gimp the Ares.. i mean, they were stupid enough to rob Stealth Bombers of the ONE thing that made them climb from "abysmal" on the suck scale.

Yeah the ares is great for going places quickly... that's about it. Even if you decide to fit 2 launchers and 2 rails on it by gimping your lowslots with a couple powercores, you'd have to train missiles to get it to do decent damage.
There's nothing out there the ares does better than anyone else. I do think it looks good tho.

I love the Ares for this reason, even though it is a the biggest joke in the game. And no, whoever said stealth bombers are worse, I can't imagine an Ares 1 v 1 a stealth bomber and winning :P

Look at the little knobs underneath your screen, and fix your color balance. The ship is red, not pink. But then again, you see what you want to see, as my grandma says.

It's pretty sad, that's what it is.
During the frigates w/ cruise missile days it was the queen of interceptors - you could tank it out with a 400mm plate and (with good skills) withstand 4 cruise missiles, while your 2 would take out nearly any other frigate. Crows fell in droves to the thing.
After that, it still had a place. It had a tracking bonus (which the Taranis didn't have), so you could (with difficulty) get into an orbit where your superior tanking and tracking would let you kill other interceptors.
Before the latest changes it still had a (poor) role as a rail + missile interceptor. A poor version of the Taranis, to be sure, but at least it wasn't completely awful.
Now it's not even good for that.
Sad. It was my first interceptor, and my favorite for a long time. Now I keep one for sentimental reasons, but never really use it.

Small missiles (not rockets) are deadlier now. They got more range, more ROF and more speed. Despite the power grid changes, which you can recover with advanced weapons upgrade skills, the Ares should be lifted in general by the new missile abilities and skills. It is better now, but whether the Ares, or small missiles in general, could still hold against interceptors with three to four small T2 weapons remains highly debatable.

hehe have you seen how little damage that light missils do to even a painted/webed inty? its pretty pathetic. rockets are pretty solid still though

Yes, I just happen to notice my 135 to 140 dmg per shot (Ares, Malediction and Crows have bonuses for certain damage types) at a six to seven second ROF.

You have to be faster than the light missile (at least 3750m/s now) in order to avoid it.

true but they only have to go faster than 1250m/s and or keep you sig radius below 30m and those light missils will do pretty crappy damage. the average unwebed inty has nothing to fear from light missils, and if it does get webed it just needs to turn off its mwd and it still doesn't have much to fear

Sorry but sig radius effects should not affect light missiles at all, because light missiles are completely matched to the sig radii of frigates and interceptors. _______________________________________________ "Is it me or the bad guys just getting totally pathetic?"---Clover, Totally Spies, "Hope is wasted on the Hopeless."---Mandy, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. "Sorry but sig radius effects should not affect light missiles at all, because light missiles are completely matched to the sig radii of frigates and interceptors."
Interceptors get the signature size reduction bonus... happens to exactly match the effect of Guided Missile Precision skill, so you're pretty much guaranteed to get ~30% damage reduction when the light missile hits non-MWD'ing interceptor (average base sig radius of 35 m vs base explosion size of 50 m)

Nothing there that cannot be overcome with skill training including the new missile precision and target navigation skills, while you can train your missile speeds to go even higher, along with your ROF. You're going to put out more damage than what you lose but regain with skill training. _______________________________________________ "Is it me or the bad guys just getting totally pathetic?"---Clover, Totally Spies, "Hope is wasted on the Hopeless."---Mandy, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. i fit :
2 125mm t2 2 standard launchers 1 mwd t2 , 1 20km warp disruptor 3 cap relays 1 mapc
this set up can run everything for ever if you have skills where u need them eg propulsion jamming and high speed manuvering. now it aint as great as usin 2 150mm t2 before the missile launcher owergrid increase, but this set up can beat crows
