I was thinking it was maybe because they are using an old pictures dir. I'm only a couple of weeks old, and the system hasn't been backed up since I got here. And they may get the picture info from the backups, rather than polling the live server.

Ofcourse not! but i will tell you anyways..
I made this char cool looking, but when i played on this char, everyone told me he looked like a retard. So i reinstalled and, to my amazement he looked totally different.
With that: WTF?!!?!?

About poeple looking different ingame and here.
There have been slight problems from time to time. Going back to potrait in char creation and changing settings once saved wrong settings for one of my alts. The new one was saved on my disc, and some other one on the server.
As long as its on the disk, itll never ask for the server one.
As i knew the problem already (in beta all potraits on the server were once lost ;), after reinstall all people looked different), i gladly always delete the local pics after creating a char, so that the client will download the one others see, so that i can check it.

We are working on the forum character portraits right now. What will happen is that your picture will be rendered max 24 hrs after your first post. After that it will always show. The system isn't fully plugged in yet, so today it only shows people who had posted as of wednesday or something like that, minus some who had posted earlier. Expect to see a 512x512 image available soon.
