You can't buy black market skill, you must be born with it! Like me...

Yep, it's a rare birth defect that gives us the mutant power to move contraband in the Eve universe.

No. I think it was only one of the Amarr races that was able to select it at character creation, was kinda useless though so I don't think a lot of people bothered with it.

Edited by: Donna Darko on 30/07/2005 16:10:23 It seems that the only possible way to have this skill is to chose it at character creation, regardless of race but based on the profession choices you make (check out www.eve-i.com - Starter Tool for the different choices that can give you Black Market).
I find this to be a bug, and a pretty annoying one. I found out about this skill and about drug smuggling just recently. I have played my character for 6 months, have waited roughly 3 months just for the learning skills to train and have quite a few skills that could help me smuggle drugs - except that I cannot do it everywhere because I lack this Black Market skill. It seems there is no ETA on when this skill will be introduced in game, which leaves me with a sour taste when hearing people say "You cannot 'mess up' your character's skills, you can train everything from skill books."
I am one of the people who doesn't like having alts, I play my 'main' all the time. I know I could make an alt that has this skill, but we're not only talking about having to train it one skill and that's it. My main has already went through learning all these skills. I fail to see why I should spend time and money on an additional 6 months of training to bring another character to my main's level (and no, I don't consider ~90$ to be a fair price for ONE skill).
I have been trying to find out when this skill will be introduced, but none of the 'officials' is able to give me an answer :( Hopefully they will bring it into the game soon, until then I will keep trying to bring it to their attention through the official channels.

You can train everything that was officially introduced in the game, from the released skill books. Smuggling simply isn't one of these things, as it clearly hasn't yet been completed as game feature, and there's indeed no ETA on when it's going to happen... nor there's any sort of developer feedback on the whole smuggling thing, for that matter... --;;
(being able to receive the skill during character creation is a result of it being roughly planned as part of the game for very long time -- the skill was introduced from the very start, but wasn't actually doing anything... much like leadership skills which were also available through character creation and inactive for many months)

I'm a Caldari and have it, so I'm not sure where you got the idea you had to be Amarr to have it though.
I was told the skill doesn't have any effect because it isn't in the game yet - have I been misled this entire time?

Edited by: Klyde on 02/08/2005 22:42:14 I am not sure where you hear you get it when you create a char, I bought mine about a year ago off the market, maybe a little more then a year ago... it looks like CCP took it off the market, they no longer sell it, i guess if someone has a book kicking round after all this time, it would be worth quite a bit eh.
I would suggest you petition CCP to bring it back
Skill
Black Market Trading
Skill at forging cargo manifests and disguising contraband cargo. From a base of 90%, each level of skill reduces chance of contraband detection by 10%.

Agreed. I have the skill ( I am Minmatar) and I am unable to sell spirits to the thirsty Amarrians sitting in Solitude. I have even attempted to do so, and the puter spits out the message "You can't sell that here, it's contraband."
Worst part is, I only need to travel 3 jumps to give them what they want and the unit price difference is over 100isk pu. To make it worse it's all in safe space!!!!
ARRRRRRRGGHHHHHH!!!! It's like being told you can be in the same room with naked supermodels, but only if you're blindfolded!!

I heard that carrying contraband inside a GSC will hide it from scanners - if that's true, then we all just trained black market trading to level 5 ;)

According to an email reply by the GMs that I got a couple of months back, it's working as it's supposed to, at least as far as the GMs know. However, since there are only very few characters with this skill (again according to that GM email) and even less who've actually tested and asked specific questions ("is this exact thing a bug or not?"-type), it might be buggy without any GM knowing it.
I hope I paraphrased far enough to not go against those forum rules. ________________________ Bah, my sig is 2Kb too large! |

As I recall the skill was added to character creation in Exodus. I recall(perhaps incorrectly) reading it in the patch notes. From what i understand you can only get this skill in character creation. Which sucks as I'd be very interested in getting this skill.

Annoying that it's creation only, however the skill DOES work properly...it prevents (or reduces risk of) detection of the goods in transit...it does NOT allow you to sell them where they are contraband though.
I think it's about time CCP introduced it...maybe as an agent reward, to limit its availability? I think the drug runners have had long enough since the introduction of contraband to make their profits... ========================================= * I'm ALLOWED to cheat. Ok, now how silly is that?
You can move contraband like spirits ... but you just can't sell them where they are contraband?
ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!
Now I'm not only blindfolded in a room with naked supermodels, I am also chained to a fricken metal chair while they tease me about with feathers and say "To bad you're married!"
FFS, stop this insanity and allow those of us with the Black Market skill to actually use it to trade some illegal goods. Otherwise just take it out of the game!

Edited by: Imfir on 28/08/2005 06:25:09 I was wondering about the blackmarket skill myself . . tho I am one of the ones born with it, the Ironic thing was this was my first ever character, didnt know what I was doing at creation, and just a couple weeks ago I saw I had that skill . . tho I never saw I needed to train it, but one of my alts could use it, I went shopping around to purchase that skill . . nothing . . I asked in corp . . heck only a couple people there ever heard of it, one mentioned if I ever do find it I could make a fortune if I could make BPc's of that book. but seeing some of the replies here , I guess it really can not be bought, and is just something that you get at creation.
