As the topic says. I can't honestly be the only one out here who would like to see some real black systems with stars in the ground instead of the bright fluffy clouds everywhere. Oh don't get me wrong, EVE looks good, but after you've seen everything for the hundreth time you want something more realistic.
Give us some black space background systems ftw.

There are some systems that are almost realistic. Not many tho and I dont recall if they had any stars.

well if you want Realistic as small as the eve universe s on a true Galatic scale, every system should have nearly the same background as the distance between the stars would be minimal compaired to the Nebulia background.
But your point of different backgrounds is a good one. It would be neat to see some other stuff going on. Binary stars, blackhole, Nova, N'stuff

Yes the systems to tend to get a bit similar to each other quite fast, but as for background i have some trouble seeing how this could be made any different, with 5000 systems it's quite a task making system unique, and i haven't seen any none-nebula systems yet, so theres a good start. And i for one wouldn't mind a tad bit more of rare or unnatural "Points of interest". Granted i haven't explored, i've only heard - and seen - pictures of the EVE Gate and the 10/10 sansha comlex inter-nebula base, but i haven't heard of binary star systems, or any other system then Ginnungagap containing a view of an event horizon, but creating a bit more of these places where you have a "neat looking" factor would be more then welcome :)
As for ideas? well your imagination can set the limit, it is a game and physics can easily be diregarded to create a unique feeling, but a couple of more "acceptable" ideas would be partially pulverized moons, none-circular planets/moons, binary(or more) star systems - not only the "side-by-side" but possibly also the "star-planet(s)-star" version, red-giant systems (planets visible being engulfed by an expanded star), and so on. Granted these are all the "fauna" of the systems, but as for backgrounds you could place more "visible" event horizons around the Ezzera-Aliette-Odatrik center, and while we're doing the whole perpetual-standby planets, why not a couple of comets near a planet in a couple of systems. I know i've stopped up in systems like Tinton and Crieler and went ":o" (the clear nebula belt and color of Tinton made en impression :P) ________________________________________ <insert clever/witty comment here>

I think there is around 12,600 systems but I'm sure a mod could drop some knowledge on us with an exact #. ------------------------------------- You are all worthless, and weak.

Here's one.
Every so often, like every couple of months or something, a star goes supernova.
The explosion completely destroys everything inside the solar system -- planets, moons, players, even some of the gates. If you had stuff at stations there, it's all gone. All of it. The map changes due to the gates being all out of whack, and travelling to the system means you're ending up at gates that are now orbiting a black hole.
The constellation around it will suddenly change too. The presence of a local black hole forces NPC corporations out of the area in evacuations over time, possibly decomissioning stations and causing a localized pocket of criminal elements to move in and take over some systems in the area. The security status drops, and bam, you've got a little mini 0.0 that could be right smack in in the middle of an area it would never have been before (say, empire space).
Random thoughts, I'm bored at work. :)

I agree completely, way too many pretty nebula in EVE.
Also, supernovas have a minimum safe distance of 50-100 light years so they don't just destroy stuff in there system... ________________________________________________________

A supernova in Yulai would pretty much take out all of EVE. Not 100% sure but i'm pretty sure eve is around what, 70 light years * 70 light years?
Supernovas are big. They are also fairly rare, about once a century in our galaxy. ________________________________________________________

Regular Novas would be acceptable too, maybe even be able to tank them while going through the system.
There are also Red Giants and Neutron Stars.

Nova's are not a smaller type of supernova. They are actually completely different.
A nova occurs when a white dwarf has a companion star. Basically, the white dwarf draws gases (via gravity) (hydrogen/helium) away from it's neighbour until it reaches a critical level where nuclear fusion takes place. It converts the hydrogen/helium into heavier elements. This all brightens the star by a large magnitude for a short time. ________________________________________________________

Hahaha I posted this exact same topic a few mins ago, and some guy said a forum search tool would be useful lol, totaly agree, nebulas and clouds look great but some nice black space would be great too, even if it was just in certain constilations or something, plus it would make the clouds seem more impressive too :P

Or CONCORD should face a revolt and Yulai and the rest of Genesis should become 0.0 space without warning. ------ I generally assume the following: 1. 95% of Empire Carebears don't get 0.0 PVPers. 2. 95% of 0.0 PVPers don't get Empire Carebears. 3. 100% of Ore Thieves steal just to upset the Miners. |

This is the kind of thread that pops up regularly... Yes it would be nice, however it won't be on the dev blog until a long long long long time... This is cosmetic, and still many [capital] things are missing.
Probably it's on the devs paper board...But it's also probably the last line :( (\_/) (O.o) (> <)=Oveur (proof) "Jumping 50 systems I can like, have sex 150 times during that period" |

It would be fun although supernovas are the galactic equivilent of domestos, all of Eve would go although not for a few years as the radiation only travels at lightspeed. However neutron stars and the such would be interesting within Eve would make for more varied terrain, imagine how dark and moody a dead system would be, perfect for a pirate base.
I used to enjoy making following police fighters crash into white dwarves in Elite as the surface gravity was quite fierce.
