Edited by: phatpanda on 28/07/2005 20:50:41 Hi. I am playing the 14 day trial of Eve. It's an interesting game and I am planning on purchase the game at the end of the 14 day trials. I've gotten familiar with the basics of the game.
I admit I regret a bit on choosing the mining preset when I create my character (Galatine). But I will stuck with it and see if I can make a fighter out of it.
ok, my question is: when I open my character sheet, I don't have all 15 skil categories, only 5 are available to me: Drone, Gunnary, Industry, Mechanic, and Spaceship Command. I was wondering how can I unlock the rest of the skill categories? Is it because I am in trial version therefore I only have acces to 5?
Thanks for answering!
P.S I've also seen containers in the space that are protected by passwords, do I have to purchase it in market or it's a speciall command when I Jettersion cargo?

If you don't have a skill in your list, you have to buy (or otherwise acquire) it. It comes in the form of an item, which you then right-click on and choose to train.
Passworded containers are Secure Containers, which are on the market. You need the Anchoring skill to use them properly (launch, anchor, password). |

Edited by: phatpanda on 28/07/2005 21:22:09 Edited by: phatpanda on 28/07/2005 21:20:03 I would assume the only way to get them is from Missions Rewards?
thanks for replying me.
I guess another question is: I have an imcibus (Galante), I want to focus on mining while beable to kill the occasional npc that come around. (I am in a .8 zone right now) Would u suggest me to equip 2 mining laser 1, while using combat drones to defend and kill the npc, or get 2 guns and use the mining drone to mine?

The main way the get skills is to buy them in the form of skillbooks (just look on the market) and there are no restrictions on what you train. You very rarely get skillbooks as mission rewards. As for the mining I'd use combat drones for defense and mining lasers to mine.

Skills can be found on the market. Just switch the market to Region (in the upper left corner), and then expand the Skills and Accessories category and look there.
It's probably faster to mine with 2 lasers and defend with the drone, than to mine with the drone, and defend with guns. A mining laser has about 2-3x the capacity of a drone, so, with two, it's like 6 drones.
You're not stuck with the Imicus either, you can get a better ship with more lasers and more drones once you learn the skills. Look at cruisers, for example.

Edited by: phatpanda on 28/07/2005 22:17:16 thanks guys.
Cruiser would be too expensive... would have that for a while
Now, just curious, which aspect of the game u guys like most? what keeps u guys keep playing the game?
I've played AO (219 engi), WOW (3 lv 60 char). It seems like I lose interest once I reach the top level... and then there is nothing new to do... what makes u guys keep playing?
Also, how stable is the server?

I used to play this game a lot, now, I only play a few sessions here and there. I've started over with a new character. I like SciFi games, ships in space, there's nothing better out there at the moment.
There is no "top level".

The server is usually very stable, its just going through a rough patch at the moment. What keeps me playing? A lot of stuff I suppose, the thing thats best about eve is that there's no restriction on what profession you want to pursue and there is no top level. I've been agent running a lot recently but have also tried my hand at pvp and have decided to have a go at that, and I also do some mining once in a while. I suppose at some point I'll try trading and maybe production, there's some much stuff to do and learn I think it'll take me a long time to get bored of this game. Then of course there's the social aspect of the game, the politics, being part of a corp with aims and aspirations, meeting new people, etc. I could go on but you get the idea

Which aspect of Eve is best?
0.0 SPACE
Particularly PvP. You are never too "young" to start: get 500k skillpoints, fit a frigate for speed and tackling (warp disruption, webbing), and go join a corp in 0.0 and kill people.

What he said x1billion pvp is the best part of the game imo(and at times the worst but we tend to forget those bad times eh?) Best way to go through the game is to join a good corporation that knows what they are doing.

You want a corp whose Directors and CEO are active and play a lot. There should also be a few members that are on when you are. And, the plan they have or the purpose for the corp should match your intentions about how you want to play (don't join a mining corp if you want to be a PvP'er).
Be aware that access to hangars is given relatively slowly (this varies from corp to corp) because of the possibility of theft. And be careful with the hangars you're given access to; don't take everything just to look at it, only take what you need to install in your ship, and try to contribute back whenever it's possible (it may not be possible right away, as you're a newbie).
