If there is any one weapon system that really shines with T2 (and is quite honestly crippled with T1 guns) it is Lasers. Scorch ammo is a gift from God. |

Support skills. T2 guns without decent gunnery/missile and agility skills (level 4 at least) won't make much difference with a target that can kill you.
Kiting is good to start with if your tank skills are poor since you basically rely on not getting hit much. But you need good navigation skills.
Oh, and T1 rails are fine. Look for the prototype meta (from memory) since it's cheaper and has similar DPS/tracking to T2. People rarely seem to use T2 rail ammo. |

t2 skills give you 10% more damage at lvl 5 (something you really only need to train to 4 unless you have nothing better to train). and they give you access to t2 ammo. so the t1 question matters depending on which race you're using.
imo you can get away with t1 in gallente and caldari.
meta 4 t1 launchers and t1 rails are fine, these aren't about dps and faction is the ammo of choice anyway.
if your'e amarr, you really need scorch. the whole faction falls apart whithout it. t2 is a must imo.
minnie, you can get away with it, but t2 is preferable because dps isn't high beyond optimal and barrage is necessary in many situations.
apart from that, the most important things will remain the fights you pick and how you fight them. at the end of the day, most fights will be won and lost by that and few will come down to the extra dps you get with t2. |

So I wanted to gather opinions on whether solo PvP in null-sec without T2 guns fitted is viable. I would I just get slaughtered due to having sub-par dps?
I think it mostly depends on your choice of targets. If you are going after ratters and catch them in a belt or anomoly with rats already hitting their tank then yes you can probably get some good kills. Especially if you have drone skills as well as your meta 4 guns.
If, however, you plan on engaging folks with t2 guns or missiles in a fair fight between equal sized ships then no you will likely get yourself killed regularly. But this is eve. No one really fights fair anyway do they?

The short answer is: yes, as long as your fit rock-scissors-paper beats the fit of your target.
Kiting fits have an obvious advantage because it is their role to slowly bring down their target while mitigating damage. Slightly less damage output will not affect them that much. However, playing to your strengths will still allow you to take and win a lot of fights with a low SP fit. If, for example, you catch a Condor on the warp in of a FW complex it won't matter if your blasters are T1 or T2. The condor will die.
Look at each fit separately. Look at the fits you will be facing. Does your lack of skills break your fit or is it still viable? Adjust to different fits/tactics if needed. There really is no general answer to your question. |
