i will be able to use my first r&d agent by tomorrow, and im not to sure how these things work. will they give out missions like normal agents which will give u lp or will it be based on time/sp in the skills needed to use the agent and you research points (or whatever their called) increase in same manner as ur sp?

Hello jenn...
to begin with r&d you'll need the specific science skill to begin. You have a wide range to choose. So if you're using a lv1 r&d agent you must get a science skill like "rocket science" to lv1. For lv 2 agents lv2 and so on.
You will get rp points (research points) from r&d agents. You don't need to do any missions for them but if you do, you'll get double rp for this day.
So you can leave your r&d agent alone and still get rp from him. There is a so called lottery system for r&d so you can be lucky to get a bpo with more or less rp. The higher your rp is the more chances are to win. But the one with far less can be lucky,too.

so say if i have rocket science at 1 and get 3.52 rp/day, if it got rocket science up to lv 2-4 would my rp/day increase?

yes it will increase. also if you do the daily mission offers, you get double points that day.
anyone care to tell when the bpo is expected?? say your working on a drone bpo, whats the number of RP's on average you need?

got my mega beam laser bpo with 13,5k lp. now i have 5 agents at 20k and got nothing. just strarting my next 5 agents.
a other question: if researching in a field where all bpo are out...will there be new ones?
personal i go to starship engenieering. there will always be new ships and ships have the highest value.

As an extension of this question. How often is the so called (and aformentioned broken) lottery held? Are they daily, weekly etc. If daily and someone always gets a BPO then that would mean thousands of them out there,

How on earth do you find R&D agents in the first place. Is it just fly around and dock at every station?

Yes Please - open your character sheet, then select standings and right click on the different corporations and select show owner info. Then if you click on the 'AGE' tab it will show you the different types of agents. You will need to find a corp that has a R&D agent and then fly to the one that is available to you.
