After returning to EVE after several months of inactivity and having a "closed" account, i¦ve been thinkin about if its accualy any point for me to keep playing EVE with my account. My primary character(s) are in a very active PvP corp and now when i have come back , the situation is that my total amount of SPs on any of my chars are less then the SPs in most of my corpm8s SPs in gunnery alone . So atm i dont feel all that usefull in fights when i know that my friends are sitting with 10+m SPs in gunnery when my chars are just about to pass 10m total. You could say that i can just buy a "nursed" account with a good character, but i cant since that wont be "me".. not "my" character. I know that every little thing helps in combat and that if the player is skillfull enough , he can take on a player with more SPs, but when my m8s got more in gunnery alone that my total char Since i returned i¦ve trained up all trainingskills to max, except the advanced which i stopped at rank4 - i¦ve read that 5 is not valid.
So... is there accualy any point in me continuing playing this awesome game... |

Skillpoints are not everything - the game is here for you to play as you play and have FUN!
Make the most of what you have. If you don't like it then maybe its time to move on.

I have only 15m sp: and i have killed more people than the majority of the eve community. Skillpoints arent everything. ------------------

Of course you should start playing again! Im was the same seat. I just got back from a long paus, and i felt the same for a while. But that can¦t keep me from having a hell of a time with my friends! It isnt about SP. Thats the best thing about Eve, there¦s no "best thing" or the "he-has-the-most-sp-he-wins-all-the-time". Even though you may have 5 mill less SP, im sure you still can make a big difference in PVP together with your mates. Every man counts ;)

The keyword is "specialisation". You prolly cant catch up skillpoint wise, but when you start specialising in one or two ships (lets say one inty and one bs or hac) you`ll be as effective as they are.

Edited by: Eleven on 30/07/2005 12:53:43 10 mill SP's isn't to be sniffed at ! you can open a new account and become an active PvPer in just a few weeks .. as long as you know what to train.
PvP dosnt just happen in battleships, and that will be where all your Corpmates extra skill points will be, those large turrets eat skill points.
look at your skills and fly the right ship/setup for them, and you'll be needed by your mates more than you realise.

Totally agree with you here, I've been very lax with my training tbh, to the tune of like 12 mill sp's in nearly 2 years. Once I found my niche and had that trained I kinda lost interest in training, it all makes for cheaper clones anyway.
As for not being able to compete - pffft!

Edited by: Shin Ra on 30/07/2005 13:54:42 I have less than 5 million skillpoints total and have been inflicting ownage upon ppl since only 200k, when I first taught myself to pvp.
My othr char has 12 million, (6 of which is in mining and rubbish like that) and I've killed god knows how many battleships solo with that. ----------------------------------------- wts all new "burberry" warp core stab II's |

If you like the game donÆt quit just because of skillpoint envy. Just accept that you will only be perhaps 80% - 90% as effective as everyone else in your corporation for a while. In most online games that would just make you an XP leach whoÆs not worth the mana to keep alive.
But, Eve ainÆt one of those games.
In Eve your 80% effectiveness translates into a lot of extra firepower. You might not hit quite as hard as everyone else, but you will still hit hard. At 10 million skill points you should have a very capable character and you will just get stronger as you train more skills. IÆm sure you wonÆt have any trouble earning your pay.

I have over 27 million SPs and I still suck at EVE.
My point is, SPs are not everything!

You have 10mil sp and your whining about it? I have 3.4mil sp and it would never even cross my mind to care how many my corp mates have. My commanders know my actual ability and place me in corresponding roles. Everyone can contribute, sp means nothing. ------------------------------------- You are all worthless, and weak.

Or you could look at it like this: I have 6 million skill points in Gunnery while some of my corpmates have twice what I have (more in one case, where he has level 5 in ALL gunnery skills including two turret lines). The difference is that they have one or two skills at level 5 where I have them at level 4, and that's about it. What does that gain them? Maybe 8-9% more damage than I do.
No, the key with skill points is still unlocking items. Anything more than that is just tiny extra performance and more expensive clones.
My alt started PvPing when she had 15 million points. Of those half were in agent/research/CovOps related skills, so it's all about where your skills are.
Don't be discouraged. There's a lot you can do in EVE other than PvP, too, that don't take much skillpoints (note that PvPing is actually one of the least skill intensive proffessions other than researching on blueprints...)
P.S. You may not buy a 'nursed' account, but you can buy a new character for your account with in-game money (although the actual transfer money I think is OK to agree to who pays, even though it says the transferer is the one who shall pay it)
P.P.S. Mercenary Coalition's top pilot started PvPing back in November/December with an account about a month or two old. If you look up Farjung on our killboard, you can almost tell what date he was able to fly interceptors (look at his losses). He started really owning when he was around 6-7 million skill points. -- If TC causes you discomfort that you feel is unwarranted or may be outside TC's current contract - contact me, please.

Decent modules are better then skillpoints imho. Ok with T2 stuff the ammount you can use is proportional to skillpoints, but if you specialise im sure you can close the gap. I mean how usefull is having all the race ship and gun skills if you could have the extra points in gunnary for 1 race's stuff.
Thatsaid alot of sp's are just simply not used in a combat situation, apart from the die hard pvp'ers and then all you need to do is get a bigger blob then they have.
