Still trying to wrap my head around the fact CCP made the cyclone a missile boat.  not sure why they didnt just make it 7 turret slow boat. instead of missile.
Minmatar pride on their duck tape. and chewing gum. and their AC and artty. but missiles :| only missile boats of minnietar that are actually handy are.
Typhoon < which needs some serious love :)

If you had bothered to read the dev notes about the change, you would know why. It is precisely because of that big-ass gap between the Talwar and the Typhoon - so that players that like Minmatar, like Missiles, and like Battlecruisers have something to fly.
On second thought, I am tired of trying to apply reasoned argument to these threads.

To me, the changes to the Cyclone make me interested in flying it for the first time. It may indeed be better than my entirely satisfactory Drake (new and improved! Now with Retribution 1.1 inside!).
So for me at least, R.1.1 has met its goals. And who knows? Maybe the Cyclone may suit me better?

Breacher > Talwar > Bellicose > Cyclone > Typhoon is the progression they are going for I think.
I personally like it - Minnie still has the split projectile/missile weapons systems they always had but they are now more tightly focused in ship 'lines' rather than each ship having an underwhelming split weapons system.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine. |

Personal reasons aside, he is quite correct in that missiles are a logical weapons system for the Cyclone.
Missiles are the Minmatar secondary weapon system (and an excellent one for them to have as it compliments their play style) yet it has been rather under represented. The closest thing that had up until now were some dual weapons system boats that in general under performed for that reason. Since there seems to be a trend away from dual weapons systems now (thank god) it was inevitable that we would see a variety of missile dedicated Minmatar ships emerge... and the Cyclone fills the gap quite nicely.
You should probably give missiles a whirl, they are an extremely good choice for high speed hit and run tactics.
To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors.
If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

In a continued fire fight, the delay between hits is equal to your rate of fire. Merely switching targets adds another flight time delay.

true however if people see a cyclone land on grid their gonna know your going to be useing hams. without you even fireing so their going to stay outta your Ham range so you cant do anything but just tank.

Sounds like a fitting challenge to solve, more than anything else. I've resolved that issue with my Drake, maybe I can figure a way to make the Cyclone dance, too? Waltz a bit, perhaps, if not full-tilt boogie. Worth a try.

Probably for the same reason they're making amarr more like gallente. I have no idea what that reason is, however. Personally, I like that the races are getting more choices. |

It's a good thing you'll likely be faster than them.
While HAMclones will be effective, you might also consider that Minmatar have other options than brawling toe to toe, and that using your speed to stay out of arms reach while pounding away with heavies and drones would be effective as well... especially if you are going to be fighting HAMdrakes.

HAM cyclone looks pretty OK to me though maybe a bit light in the tank at around 48K if you opt for full tackle. It hits 1400 m/s compared to the Drake's rather pedestrian 1000 m/s (no nano on the drake, one nano on the Cyclone). The cyclone can also easily fit a pair of medium neuts which is certainly relevant, while applying right at 600 (593) dps of selectable damage (675 w/ heat).
I don't know that it's better, but it's faster, and has the 2 neuts at the cost of significantly less tank. The HAM Drake still spits out over 700 DPS of Kinetic Damage and can now very easily spin a medium neut. Variety is cool, no?
