Is there any way to set up a gun to automatically target incoming missiles?
Thanks

I haven't any way to do that.
Anyone else think that defenders are useless? I tried using them, and they always invariably come back to my ship, hover for a while and then blow up, causing me damage (albiet very little damage). When will this missle start doing its job?

No Paul tere isn't. I wish you could set a weapon to point defense mode or something similar, after all they're turrets. Beyond that, the best way to defend against missiles right now is a smartbomb.

defenders suck. my small graviton smartbomb is more than enough to knock out those pesky thunderbolt missiles. "To be content,to be comfortable, is to be complacent. No one learns anything from pleasure..pain on the other hand is a most efficient instructor" |

I disagree with you guys. Looks like you don't know the correct way how to use defenders. I almost always use defenders, well or Explosion shield that gives me 70% protection from enemy missiles pr actually both. So if I use both - defenders and shield I don't get hit even once, or I get only 30% of explosion damage. But I am telling you that 75% of incoming enemy missiles are always intercepted by my defenders without any problem. That was in 0.3, 0.1 and even in 0.0 systems when I took out by myself guristas terrorist and 4 other guristas with it. Not a big deal, but it only proves that defenders are worth to equip. But there is a problem - corrateral damage can destroy any container floating in the space in radius of 10km. So if you mine and use defenders - be carefull.

Corto: ECM's will only prevent ships form getting a target lock, if they've already fired the missiles will hit you.

1 x Hostile Target Aquisition module 1 x AC or other fast tracking weapon
Set Hostile Target Aquisition module on autorepeat. Fire you're anti-missile turret of choice on the missile when you get a lock.
It's not a 100% effective method but it works a lot better than smartbombs once you're used to it.
(Edit: And defenders are a load of old crap.)

If you have no targets locked and activate a gun, you'll get a little cross that you can then use to destroy an incoming missile. This, however, is not a very good tactic ;). As for auto-targeters... I believe them targeting missiles was a bug and was fixed in this last patch, since mine no longer targets missiles. Am I wrong? --------------- I used to be in the FA. I like cookies. Nope, they still work. They will only target as fast as you are able to though. So if your targeting speed is over 5s then forget about it, use a smartbomb.
After a bit of practice they work wonders.
