Do you need both the scout drone and combat drone skills to operate combat drones? or is it just the combat drone?

The Scout Drone skill will allow you to operate light and medium combat drones.
The Heavy Drone Operation skill will allow you to operate heavy combat drones.
The Mining Drone Skill will allow you to operate mining drones.
The Drone and Drone Interfacing skills will determine the number of drones you can operate.

Now they just need a feature to tell you which skills do nothing for you other than allowing you to equip an item, ie. Mining drone operation and scout drone operation, both broken.

I don't know if I'd skip the scout drone skill though. Doesn't it allow you to operate all drones at a further range, and not just scouts? In that case it's defeinately worth having if you want a long range rig.

Training Scout Drones increases the range at which you can command a drone by 10km per level. But against NPCs, that's not a good thing. Beyond 20km or so, the drones just become missile bait. Defenders are cheaper

Agreed, but it could be crucial in PvP where people expect drones to have less range. I've actually had it be effective in NPC too, but that's not common. My drones flew out and fought an incoming NPC that I was chaining, and destoryed it before it switched to targeting them. Was kind of funny because I didn't expect my drones to go out that far at the time.

yeah but the skill itsself wont tell u u can use light and med drones, the first thing i though when i saw the skill was that u could 1st person in the drone and explore space, without guns on it... or something like this

I think it's still good to train scout drones since the BShips that only have 1500 can only carry 6 heavy drones. I would rather use 4 Heavy and 4 scout drones (and carry extra scouts) in combat since they will do more damage.
