I'd like to propose a new ship class, one that will play the missing third link in the set of ships between frigates and cruisers. Currently, there already exists a destroyer for combat, and a mining frigate for mining. The only thing missing is a versatile ship for exploration and recon at that tier.
Currently pilots basically have 2 options. 1. Fit a frigate with exploration bonuses with a full compliment of exploration modules, as a salvager. This inevitably leads to little to no combat functionality. Exploration is extremely limited when flying alone due to rats being in the way. 2. Fit a cruiser or BC with a probe launcher and various exploration modules, adding the capacity to perform in NPC pirate signatures, as well as access radar and magnetometric sites. This makes the efficiency of scanning itself much lower (especialy at low exploration related skill levels)
The Explorer Class ship, in my opinion, should be a ship that is designed for handling all exploration modules more effectively, while still being able to fit a stable set of offensive modules. This ship would require higher level of combat skills in order to perferm solo in most scanned NPC sites (at least in highsec space), but it's scan probe bonuses and high CPU/PG levels will make it a wonderful option for keeping all of your exploration modules equipped, as well as some decent combat capacity.
I'm no ship design expert, but I'd like to see something that fit these genral specifications (this concept doesn't take into account racial variations, only a general concept)
5 High Slots (3 turret hardpoints, possible 1 missile) for either limited firepower and a full set of high-slot exploration modules (cloak, salvager and probe launcher), or stronger firepower at the expense of exploration efficiency.
6 Mid Slots, room for Analyzer and Codebreaker, as well as other necessary modules for combat enhancement.
4 Low Slots, and room for 2 rigs.
Explorer Class Bonus - 25% reduction on CPU and powergrid requirements of exploration modules. 10% increase in scan probe strength and 10% less exploration module capacitor usage per level.
The idea here is for the power and cpu constraints of the ship to force the player into tough decisions in order to maintain cap stability, without forcing them to gimp the ship necessarily either in combat viability or exploration multitasking. I feel like what is outlined here provides a fair concept of balance, similar to what I see in other ship classes, or at least I've tried to create that to the best of my knowledge. I hope this idea gets serious consideration, not only for this low SP, accessible version, but also for a T2 counterpart (i think it would be interesting if this T2 version were a ship spefically designed for wormhole activity somehow).
I hope everyone enjoys what I've proposed here and replies with support and possibly some race specific suggestions, as well as hypothetical specifics on more detailed ship stats (capacitor, powergrid, cpu, armor, etc ...)
Hoping for a good hybrid, Tia D. |

I would love to fly a ship like that, perhaps a T2 version of this ship class could posess a strong tank and immunity to warp disruption bubbles, to assist exploration in low and null sec. |

Maybe less of a tank and more of a capacity for ewar modules. I like the warp bubble resistance idea, if not immunity. |

i love your idea, eve needs a dedicated exploration ship, but i`ll like to see that ship as a cruiser hull, so it can tackle low sec professions sites, but not be able to handle the combat ones.
more like this:
4 high slots .... 2 turret/2 missile hard points 4 med slots 5 low slots 3 rig slots 400 calibration points
PG out put 520 Cpu output 350
cargo bay 550 m3
Capacitor 1425 with 475 seconds recharge time.
resistances
Shield 0 / 35 / 25 / 50 armor 40 / 35 / 35 / 20
50 m3/s drone bandwidth 125 m3 drone bay
As for bonuses : Exploration cruiser bonus : 7.5 % to probe scan strength per level and 7.5 to drone damage and hit points per level. Role bonus: 10% reduction in cycle time for salvage, hacking and archeology modules. 25% reduction in capacitor use for salvage, hacking and archeology modules. -50% for CPU use for Expanded probe launchers.
we have frigates that can run most of high sec professions site except that guristas life support shattered radar that has bs gruards. we have t3 that can run null sec We need this for low sec. |

You mean something kinda like a T3 Cruiser with probing & nullification subsystems & other systems set up to give you enough mid/high/low slots as you want to tank? I think the something you want is called a T3 Cruiser, or possibly a Gnosis if they become available. |

Destarsee Flamesword wrote:*cough cough* Covert ops *cough cough* This. Given the way they've gone with the T1 exploration frigates hopefully we'll see these become something that can chew through the lowsec profession sites.
Although tbh all we really need a proper drone frig or two with damage bonuses. |

As there are combat sites in lowsec which exceed the combat capabilities of frigs, I would prefer to use a cruiser hull for that purpose. And by chance we already have hulls below T3 that fit the role, if only tweaked somewhat. I am talking about recons, which can already fit covops cloaks. What they lack is depending on the individual hull, additional turret/launcher points and a bonus to reduce cpu need for expanded probe launcher, as these are required if you are scanning for specific sites. |

I have one, but Tech 3 ships are relatively expensive, and require lots of support skills to fly properly, this would be a cheaper, easier to get into option for the adentureous capsuleer that is moving past the frigate stage, but does not have the funds and/or skills to fly a Tech 3 vessel. |

u can cough all u want ...but any other profession in game has a dedicated ship. Why not exploration as well. if u want to do exploration properly u either use 2 accounts 1 with scanner 1 with a combat ship or use a t3..as stated before u need cash and lots of skills to even consider taking it to low sec. besides i would very much like to see u tackle a radar site in low sec in a cov ops or any of the lower end combat sites or ladars(some ladars have hackable cans). and pls don't even start with go switch ships and do the sites...cause if u go 6 7 systems from your base of operations its a pleasure to go back to pick a ship.
what we are asking is not some wtf solo pawnmobile... its just a arbitrator/vexor with probe scan strength bonuses if i were to make an analogy.

It would be better to have some percentage bonus to success per level for exploration modules than a reduced capacitor cost. I've run five analyzers or hackers at once and haven't capped out yet, but it would be really nice to have a lineup of ships with bonuses to those.
I don't think it should have as much scan strength as a dedicated scanning ship. You can scan pretty quickly with T1 non-faction junk on a battlecruiser if you have good skills and know what you're doing. It needs combat capabilities more than it needs scan strength. |

A T2 BC for exploration would be great. It's been suggested before and I still think its a good option. MODULAR DRONES

I want to point out that this ship class concept (much like destoryer and mining frigate for the purposes they serve) is intended to offer EARLY GAME versatility to casual players. Yes there are Covert Ops ships, but these suffer even more limitation than their scanning bonus frigate counterparts when it comes to combat and defense. I'd like to see this Explorer class concept become a viable option that can be reached fairly quickly by players who find their primary interest in the game is exploration, so they can operate more autonomously starting out. |

I think this thread is relevant. Though the stats would need to be updated to the newest development. Mining Overhaul Nothing changed since 2008. |

Don`t want to be rude or anything but why the hell are you guys keep pushing this towards a t2 exploration cruiser...you do realize there is a t3 cruiser for exploration that needs mostly the same amount of skills as a HAC (some extra training for the subsystems), so why would a player train a specialized t2 exploration ship it there is already a ship that will be better out there.
this ship if its ever gonna make past the forums should be between t1 frigs and t3 cruiser.
Its true u can train for a cov ops frig...but that will take around 20 days to train then u have to train combat skills to use a ship run the sites, my point being training for a cov ops its a skill detour (no skill required for cov ops its required for the next ship for exploration that ship being the tech 3 cruiser) and besides cov ops role isn't exploration its role is scouting and infiltration and cyno deployment, hence the name covert operation.
CCP was just to lazy to make a proper exploration ship tree so they just strapped some scan probe bonus to it and moved along, so there will be a t2 ship with scan bonuses.Pls make a proper exploration ship tree.

Excellent point. I agree with you, T3s are too good at what they do, which is pretty much everything.
They are supposed to be jacks of all trades and masters of none. Yet they outshine even T2 ships which are supposed to be specialists in their fields. A cruiser should not be putting up stank that can rival battleships, It should not match the DPS of a T2 BC.
A proper Exploration line of ships would be great. MODULAR DRONES
