Another satisfied new Goonswarm recruit checking in!
All of this garbage about untrustworthy Goons is just like bad reviews anywhere else on the internet. When someone has a great experience at Pizza Hut, or gets a great new hair dryer online, you don't hear about it. Why? Because the person is off happily using their new hair dryer and eating pizza!! But, when someone has a lousy experience they post all over the internet about it screaming bloody murder!
Our corp's reputation is the same. Goon numbers speak for themselves! How could there be thousands of goons if they really screwed everyone who came their way??
Here's my story: When I came to EVE I made some new friends and had some fun adventures, but I always heard about the Goonswarm and it sounded right up my alley - lots of PvP (always my favorite part of a new game ), friendly toons to hang out with at night, and just an all around tight group of people - kind of like the family that I don't have such a great relationship with in RL .
So, I talked to a recruiter, who made it clear that there were strict rules about joining up, and who TOLD me those rules in the first ten minutes of talking with me. I knew I'd need to pay a deposit. I knew I couldn't get impatient, or go over his head, or go running off screaming "GOONS SCAM" to whoever would listen. So, after having a great conversation with the recruitment associate, I decided to make the investment.
Since I had very little history, so I could have been a spy, I understood why I needed to get the 1 billion isk for the deposit. So, I took the plunge and traded for my deposit and submitted the isk. My recruiter explained that it would sit in the Goonswarm investment fund where it would actually earn interest before being returned. I was supposed to get my isk back in 30 days. But, after playing about 16 hours a day with my new mates in 0space, my deposit was returned early -- with interest (1.1billion total returned)-- after only 10 days. The Goons could tell I was a good fit as soon as we started flying together!
So yes, joining up with the Goonswarm requires some trust. But, wasn't I asking for quite a bit of trust in return? I immediately had access to corp hangers, the reimbursement system, bridges, cynos, an incredible forum and wiki setup, supercap locations, and other stuff I didn't even know existed in Eve until I started learning with Goonswarm. Trust goes both ways.
Now I'm happily recruiting other new high quality pilots that will be a good fit in our crew. Don't break the rules, do what you agree to do, don't cause a huge headache for me and my superior officers (who will have my ass for wasting my time and theirs fixing some stupid mistake made by a recruit) and don't be a spy. All pretty reasonable expectations from a corp with the this level of membership, quality, respect and responsibility to the entire universe of EVE.
Sure, bad experiences may sometimes happen. They always do, and the mark of a quality corp is what they do about it to get it resolved once the problem occurs. The reason we have such a rigorous recruitment process is to keep out the sort of garbage who might scam someone. So, we're all in this together.
Alright boys, I'll see you in nullsec -- if you can take the heat! o7o7o7o7o7o7o7
