The question is whether or not i should train towards a megathron for pvp or just go with the typical apoc/arma/tempest ship for fleet pvp.
Background info:
I have 3 mil sp, 1.1 mil in learning .8 in spaceship command (gallente frig 5) .2 mil in gunnery (mainly secondary skills) and the rest engineering etc.
So i KNOW for a fact i want to fly the enyo/taranis, i will be able to fly the enyo and taranis in the next 2 weeks. (inty 1 and af 1) Now here is my dilemma i know for a new player the only way to "catch" or be up to par with the older players is to specialize. So i was going to get small railgun specialization.
So it would take less time to train up a megathron with the correct skills because i would already have the small hybrid specs complete. I was also looking at the deimos HAC (but thats far down the road).
So i'm pretty much going gallente frigs cruisers but i was wondering if it was worth it to train the megathron as my battleship pvp. I know its not the best sniper and people say go for blasterthorn but how effect is that for pvp purposes (fleet wise). So in the end would it be better to train the typical amarr minmatar battleships for pvp or just to stick with the gallente? How much worse is the megathron for gank/fleet pvp than the geddon tempest.
Any help would be appreciated.

Mega is a great ship for fleet pvp. The tempest is good for its damage per volley, but the DPS of a mega far surpasses a tempest. Plus you have more range. Geddon is good at mid range and is still fairly good at long range but lasers dont have the versatility of rails (rails have more falloff and longer range in general).
Im a gall specialist myself, using taranis, enyo/ishkur, deimos/ishtar and the mega and trust me, they are a great choice for PVP. Nothing beats seeing the whites of ur enemy eyes as u hand them their arse

Typical? I see more megathrons than tempests in pvp!

Tempest for fleets
Megathron for smaller gangs
Thats imo anyway, if wrong plz prove me wrong

mm, nothing quite beats the shudder-type-feeling as your warping into a fleet engagement and the commander mentions "Oh by the way, they've got 20+ Tempests"..

ive had alts with very high skills in gallente and using t2 large rails\blaster with bs lvl 5 etc
i personally hated the megathron\dominix so much in fact i sold that alt within 2 weeks. altho there AF's and HAC's are very very good. and i do love drones.
i personally love amarr\minmatar there weapons are great imho minmatar have the nack of being very verstile they can be armour tankers, shield tankers, 2nd best for drones, and the highest damage per volly and the longest range. They just require an immense amount of specialisation.
Amarr lasers are excellent also not very versitile but you can quite easily get away with lvl 4 battleship since theres no damage bonus on the apoc or geddon. ROF bonus tho on a geddon is nice but lvl 4 is fine.
Caldari suck tbh i hate there hacs, there af's there ceptors and there battleships except the scorpion.
My suggestion is amarr, and if your patient then minmatar. Gallente are ok but there bs's arent really great "imho"

Agree with you on Caldari but I believe that you underestimate Megathron's damage potential. I see no reason to "hate" it.
