Hello.
Periodically, new things are introduced into EVE that have their own overview category.
Many, but not all, of these things are ships. Other objects include "mission containers" which are used in some things such as the introductory epic arc mission series, or the new DUST related satellites around planets, denoting areas where you might be able to bombard things.
An example is in Retribution 1.1, the category "Battlecruiser" was changed to "combat battlecruiser", and the new category of "attack battlecruiser" was added. This wasn't mentioned in the patch notes, however.
The default overview settings were updated to include the new category, however existing custom settings used by players were not. This requires every player of EVE online that uses anything other than the default settings to check and correct every single overview filter that they have.
It also obsoletes old, stored overview settings files, which players keep as being a useful backup for when glitches that wipe settings occur, or when their computer is upgraded or changed, necessitating a new installation of the EVE client.
It would appear that EVE's overview logic has "Show Nothing by Default, except the selected items", which means when a new category is introduced, it will not appear. With the opposing logic of "Show Everything by Default, except the excluded items", then new categories would be shown, unless the player makes the decision to exclude them.
Is this something that can be changed ? is it something that should be changed ?
On the one hand, there is the frustration caused for new players unable to find the mysterious mission objective item that they can't see on overview. On the other hand, there are the humorous pvp situations that occur when someone doesn't see the large gang of ships that had their category changed. |

I am pretty sure that every CCP employee had to deal with the issue in the same way as we did and that they are all now just as annoyed by it. Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling. |

Tbh, it would be excellent if it did both: if for every item you could specify GÇ£always showGÇ¥ and GÇ£always hideGÇ¥.
E.g. I'm not particularly fussed about seeing all these neutrals so hide them, but I really want to bag me one of these newfangled mining frigates, so show me all of those! Vote Malcanis for CSM8. |

I'm still trying to figure out why they thought it was necessary to split battlecruisers into two categories anyway. |

The whole UI needs a revamp IMO. Not only is it confusing as hell to new players, as OP suggested, finding certain things can be a pain.
Oh, I was supposed to click those 3 little bars I can barely see? |

Because they now have different type IDs, which makes it hellalot easier to assign them with specific traits and abilities (In this case, the ability to fit command modules).
It's the difference between having a group of modules that has a rule that says GÇ£only fit on ships of class XGÇ¥ and giving the same modules a rule that says GÇ£only fit on ships A, B, E and QGÇ¥. Every time you want to add something to that list, you have to go through aaaall the modules (and remembering which all of them are) and carefully add the new ship to all those lists, rather than simply saying GÇ£this new ship belongs to class XGÇ¥, at which point all the modules automatically know how to deal with it. the DUST satellites that I mentioned, appear to be under the overview group "celestials", rather than "orbitals".
Celestials maybe isn't the most obvious group to look in. |

It's a pain, but it only takes a few clicks to sort it out once you know.
A note in the dev blog would have been nice, though. |
