Don't know if this has been requested before, but I've read a lot of posts about having drones that collect loot.
Here's an alternative idea (yes, taken from Star Trek I'm afraid!)....
How about having a tractor beam?
You could have a skill to train for it, and have different levels of beam (like afterburners) that have different ranges. Just a thought....any comments?

Would be nice, but bear in mind it would also make ore thieving easier.

Ah, could make it such that if someone already has the container 'open' it can't be moved....

Too bad... I'd love to mess w/ all the afk macro miners out there by pulling the can *just out of their reach.

I think a drone that dragged cans around would be a good idea, although I definitely would like tractor beams also... so you can get ships. Maybe have them be lake the gang modules... tons of CPU so they can only be on 1 type of ship... a towship?

A simple skill that increased the range at which a container can be opened by something like 500-1000m per level would be nice, would make container collecting somewhat easier and wouldn't require any significant coding to add to the game unlike something like a tractor beam which would need graphical effects and so on coding.

I've requested this severeral times on the suggestions forum. Since it will take a while, I've also requested the ability to have "scoop contents to cargohold" on the right click menu. That way you don't have to open the cargo, and you'll save a lot of time. You still have to fly a lot though, to come within 1.5km range.

Edited by: TIO 101 on 05/08/2005 11:23:10 id rather npc's had slightly higher bounty, n didnt drop anything unless it was named items (1 in x chance ofa can being dropped), saves me flying around pickin up crap loot, wouldnt miss too much from the recycling, and keeps my screen nice + pretty clear of all the loot cans full of crap.
Edit: also it would mean tech 1 items wouldnt be swamped by mineral price sales n such, and would still need to be built by the 'lesser' / 'smaller' industrial corps.

As for ore thieving, heres a thought. Drones can only pull x amount of m3. Most can drops are mods and mods are small on the m3 list. Obviously if a drone tried to pull a large 200 m3 or so it won't be able to.
This or simply give retreiver drones a cargo bay size that they can take from can and haul to you. So if you wanted to ore thieve, you would only be doing a fraction of the guys can in which case he will either kill your or just haul his stuff away. -----------------------------------------------

Edited by: Jet Collins on 05/08/2005 15:43:48 Or to build off what Kedo said. Say the looting Drones Max speed is 800m/s for every additional m3 thats in the can the Dornes slows 50m/s. So 1-49m3=800m/s 50-99m3=750m/s 100-149m3=700m/s And so on so the Drone can't hall more than 800m3 but can still get the 800 booster caps.
