It's Velator versus Tie Fighters, plural. Imperial doctrine is to use Ties in overwhelming numbers. Plus, since the Tie has no FTL capability, it has to be shipped or based nearby, thus implying cap ship support (i.e. a carrier) or a planetary base.
OTOH, Imperial warp scrambling requires an interdiction cap ship, so the Velator can leave the field of battle easily. However, the Velator is limited to star gates which can place potentially crippling restrictions on the Velator's strategic mobility.
Anyway, after running the numbers (Velator, TIE), the deciding factor is coolness. The TIE has it. The Velator doesn't. Winner TIE. |

Considering the Tie Fighter is little more than an engine pushing around some scaffolding, some lasers, and a pilot, yeah, Velator all the way. If you're not already part of a bloc, this is the best guy for CSM8. |

i dunno the velator is faster it would kite the fighter. At the end of the game both the pawn and the Queen go in the same box. |

A Tie fighter couldn't get that deep in to New Eden on its own, it must have gotten lost or been part of a convoy or something! I mine in EVE because I'm too drunk to fish in WoW.-á |

If you said projectile weapons instead of lasers I would think the Tie was Minmatar. This thread has so much content it may be 'Thread of the Year' and it is only January.

though, on the other hand, a "capital ship" in Star Wars terms is a very different thing than a capital ship in EVE terms. the scales are totally different. look up the size of a conventional Star Destroyer, its smaller than a Hyperion or Mach, I believe. at least from what I looked up.
one on one, the tie would have no chance.
I mean the Millenium Falcon was only size-wise, by EVE terms, a Frigate. |

When a Velator collides with a pod (roughly the same size as a Tie Fighter), the velator awkwardly shuffles over a couple of meters. When a Tie collides withGǪ well, anything really GÇö trench walls, other Ties, asteroids, medical frigates GÇö they explode violently.
My money is on the Velator, especially if it's AFK.

Without a doubt.
Just look at the Minmatar Shuttle. It's a TIE Interceptor with minor modifications.
So... i started an industry blog at www.derbk.com/eve There i am preparing a guide to all things related to manufacturing. Check it out!
