Cecil Montague	Posted - 2005.08.04 23:30:00 - [1] Ok there i was happily mining away in high sec saving up for a battlecruiser when over the corp channel a friend asks. "Anyone up for a spot of fighting?". I, being bored out of my mind killing rocks, reply. "Sure, what's up" In brief my friend was running missions and his assault frig was in one system and he was in another. The problem was a small gate camp in between. "What's the oposition like?" I asked. "A cormorant and a kessie" he says. "I'll be right there." i say. Now as i hopped into my own assault frig i remember thinking to my self it was a bit odd to be camping a route into 0.0 with so little firepower. But oh well stranger things have happened. Now here's where things start to go downhill. I jump into the system and find that the camp has moved gates. More to the point they have moved to the gate i just jumped through. That's ok i think, i'm set for short range anyway. Then i notice something my friend didn't, the Kessie is the wrong colour. "Oh that isn't right" I think. Then the awful realisation hits. "It's not a kessie, IT'S A STEALTH BOMBER!" Those of you with a stalwart belief in the superiority of amarr ships may want to stop reading now because this next bit is not pretty. I decloak and start heading for the gate. But someone is webbing me and my already not very fast ship slows to a crawl. Then the first volly of cruise missiles hit, there goes my shields and a good chunk of armour. Then the next and my armour is gone. "My god!" i shout, startling the neighbours dog, for nothing has ever ripped apart my ships defences so quickly. The third volly lands and the shiney new Retribution i had bought just 2 days before is nothing but space dust. I eventually leave the system in my pod with my tail very firmly between my legs having not got off a single shot at my opponents who were just out of range of my pulse lasers. If possible could you post some of the damage you were being hit for? I keep hearing how underpowered stealth bombers are so I'm interested to see what it was.

[ 2005.08.04 20:49:29 ] (combat) Wrath Cruise Missile I belonging to ** hits you, doing 184.8 damage. [ 2005.08.04 20:49:43 ] (combat) Paradise Cruise Missile I belonging to * hits you, doing 258.3 damage. Around and over 200hp per missile. No AF is going to be able to tank that. As for my setup. Hi 4x T2 dual light pulse lasers (multi's) Med 1X T2 1Mn AB Low 1x T2 armour rep 2X T2 heat sinks 1X Engergised thermal resistance 1X Overdrive injector Using cruise missiles on a frig sized target with all resistances above 60% and still doing that much damage is scary. Guess speed is king when facing missiles. As far as i know ECM wasn't used. Dunno about target painters. Both of them were out of range of my guns and with a webbed top speed of 150m/s that wasn't going to change. I know stealth bombers aren't the toughest ships in the world but when you can't move and can't hit them it doesn't really matter if they're made of tissue paper. Boonaki	Posted - 2005.08.05 08:06:00 - [10] Manticores rock now. (2 assault frig kills) A ship has to be moving over 650 meters a sec for speed to effect the damage. Sig radius is well... Test for yourself. Fear the Ibis of doom.

Since that day, I look very carefully for those little fins. Part of me is glad I only took my Raptor and not a Crow. Anyhow, I'm sure we've all made mistakes like this at one point or another. But before that, when cruise did full damage to a frig, I was able to kill them easily 1v1 in a ceptor. I have no idea how any sane AF pilot can possibly die to a stealth bomber, even with a destroyer as backup. I was webbed, and the bomber was out of range. Doesn't matter how much damage per second my guns do if i can't actually hit my target. Plus a webbed inty can still move if it needs to.
