Macro Miners that are gobbling up all the belts in systems like Unpas, Kisogo, Jita, Niya and ruining the economy and frakking up belt regens, and you can't give me the BS that they are having a hardtime finding out who it is... jinkuai1, jinkuai2, jinkuai3, lsdk, asdh, asdf, asdgf....
AND
What is CCP doing about isk sellers? They "claim" to have shutdown over 80 accounts, but yet all the big sellers like IGE, Ownyourgame etc etc are still selling strong and at the same prices. |

Couldnt CCP ask ebay to cancel all current and future auction involving sale of EVE items?

Edited by: Administrator Steiner on 05/08/2005 02:33:55 Doesn't matter, since you can buy direct from the websites of these isk sellers... The problem is they aren't attacking the root cause of the problem, which are these websites that sell isk, and I don't think they can shut them down anyways because I don't think there are actual laws prohibiting this... only the EULA.. |

They could ask, but E-bay are in no way obliged to do so. Remember, it is a violation of the EULA, it doesn't break the law.
Also it *is* very hard to detect macrominers. They can only ban people if they're totally certain its a macrominer. Being almost sure isn't good enough. For instance, a bunch of people with near-identical user names is not necessarily a group of macrominers. It could be someone using several backup accounts to strip mine for their main.
And I'm not saying that's likely, just that it's possible. So long as there are other plausible explanations besides macro-mining they can't just go ahead and ban people.

Do you think the GM's really give a shhit about macrominers. No, it's more freakin money being payed to CCP in the form of 1 person having 20+ active accounts. Why would they kill the goose thats laying the golden egg? They could care less tbh.

Mining doesn't ruin the economy. By selling minerals, already existing ISK is transfered from one player to another. A sales tax is deducted from this, which gets eaten. Mining fights inflation! Go go miners.
ps, cheaters suck. Macro mining is a bannable offense. IMO report them if you know they are using a macro.

If they are not macro mines they will react in local. If they are - CCP will take care.

Unfortunately there isnt really anything that can be done about it. Whenever theres a game with persistent stats like this, you have people who will go to any length to use their real life means (usually money, also time/hacks) to gain an advantage. And there will be people who will happily provide them with what they want.
As for macro miners themselves, if anything theyre part of the reason minerals are no more overpriced than they already are. No real way to deal with them other than the banstick on the rare chance you catch them (and only the dumb ones get caught), but they could be nerfed slightly by making mining more productive as the mineral market in general would get diluted. _________________ [SAK] And Proud Of It! aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base? |

someone that takes a hauler into a belt and attaches 1 miner 2 and leaves it for 2 hours to fill up on a veld roid isnt a macrominer.
I think u will find there are so many newbie and alliance miners with their strip miners in those systems that those roids are gone within 2 hours of respawning.
plenty of roids in the 0.5-0.7 systems usually pretty quite - get out of the main core systems if you are a carebear into the 0.5-0.7 systems - or out into low sec planty of big fat roids out there hardly touched - why this thread im guessing someone is upset cause their 1 system roid field is empty suggestion ..... TRAVEL AROUND GET OUT OF 1.0 SYSTEM GET INTO MID SEC OR LOW SEC.
Ill keep shaking my head lol

I know most of you don't want to hear this, but ore thieves report a lot of macro miners.
If they know someone is macro'ing, or suspect it, and they steal their ore without reporting them, they can be banned. Because of this the thieves petition the miners, then keep taking the ore.
Remember, if you suspect someone of macro'ing, petition them - the GM's won't know if no-one tells them. ______________________________________________

i agree with avon on this one but if its a hauler with one miner 2 its probably just an afk miner - best thing to do in this case is to bring a strip miner and strip their roid if their roid pops 10 minutes into a 2 hour veld operation to get 8000 m3 of veld then their effort is stuffed
If its marco well thats a different story petition it.

I don't mine in 1.0 space, but I have no idea how anyone else does, especially macro miners. Any time I pass through these systems, I always see some kind of warning about "ore thief xxx in belt 1". These busy systems seem to be where the ore relocation engineers seem to spend most of their time.
I don't see any problem with people mining afk in an indy. It's mostly only newbies that do this, anyone else could make the same money in 30 minutes that an afk indy miner would make in 3-4 hours mining with a single miner II laser.
I did see a video of someone recently who suspected a group of guys were macro mining. He took the law into his own hands, flew up to them in a Megathron and let rip with 7xLarge Smartbombs. Killed all the mining barges and podded everyone. Lost his ship to Concord, of course, and took a huge sec hit. But that's one surefire way to take care of people you suspect of macro mining!

All he did was lost a ship, and sec status. What did he take care of exactly? Those macrominers will be back there in a couple of hours. Stupid is more likely, and since they frapsed it, more like showmanship.

good on him though lol - this macro mining would be almost impossible in low sec or 0.0 though - and u make much more ISK that way so really its a low level pain. newbies can find plenty of untouched 0.7 and 0,.8 sec systems in which the roids are untouched - u might need to travel from jita - yulai out a few jumps but u can usually find solid roids to mine from.

Wow, so many people that are so concerned that other people are doing somethig that they dont like.
Personnally, who cares if someone is AFK mining or macro mining. What does it even matter that someone is selling ISK for real money?
If you dont like it, dont do it. Otherwise, what does it matter?

I am pretty sure that your wrong. Definition of intellectual property would be software, docuementation, etc. What is being sold is a contract that within the game an action will be taken for an out of game consideration. Nothing from within the game is leaving the game so, that arguement falls.
That is why the EULA is not enforceable in most countries. It is not legal in most countries. Myself, I dont care. I play Eve to relax from RL not to mix it with RL.

Well I remember still when I first came out of the station and did the tutorial where I was to mine some asteroid.
Had one that you get to do, no problem... after tutorial I was to move out (think this was in Cistuavert) into the asteroidbelts.
There was none!!! no asteroids in the belts, and I remember thinking... wtf... so I moved to next system only to find the same there, and to the next... and I ended up as noob (less than a day old) having to go to 0.7 and down to get me some iskies...
Yes it happens that I do high sec mining (1.0-0.5) but I never do mining in noobsites where I know noobs are mining.
Even if a noob come along they are welcome to participate with me... I usually split well with them.
Now for macro-miners that is the only way I think ore-thiefs are good for!!!! to deal with them.

macro mining is using external software to create player ingame actions without the player playing it. Thats against the EULA and is wrong
AFK mining using a hauler however is within the game play itself and is fully acceptible. Most holds would fill up in 1-2 hours anyway or other players come along (i know i do to annoy em esp with the high sec kernite roids lol) with a strip miner pop their roids and move on - u can come back an hour later and the hauler is still sitting there mining thin air lol.

As for ore theives well jet cans (loot cans) are unsecured anyone can come along like NPC drops from rat kills and take whatever is in the can. So ore theiving in empire systems i would say leave it alone if players cant form corps or join empire mining corps and co operate with a hauler and a few miners setup then they should lose any "unsecured" cans.
Its part of the gaem the risk / reward / easy / hard thing

If you suspect someone is afk mining or macroing, the best option is to file a petition. Make sure you include character names and the system/belt the afk miner is located in. However, do try to chat the person in local first.

AFK mining is allowed Kieron. Don't encourage people to petition it, the GM's have enough to do.
Macro mining is a different matter, and those doing it should be sent to the furthest reaches of 0.0 ______________________________________________

so keiron is what u are saying ie using a industrial ship with 1 miner 2 fitted is not allowable ingame ?
As opposed to macro mining which of course is wrong.
Do u have a point of view offically on AFk mining
A lot of newbies might be doing the wrong thing if it is wrong

As far as I remember CCP did a huge swipe of the isk sellers recently, I wont go into that further as it is not allowed by the forum rules however...
If you know of a web site that sells isk report it to CCP. If you identify an online auction seller report him/her to CCP. And like Kieron stated, if you find a person (such as this jinkuai1, 2, 3...) that you suspect is macro mining first try to speak with him and if it is clear he is macro mining report him to CCP. And as a bonus you can get the name and place to one of the people who love killing macro miners...
------------ 20. Is it true all pvpers have carebear alts? Yes, of course. I have so much fun looking up who's alt is who's

AFK Mining is just being away from your computer. I often (before implants) used to stick my alt next to a giant veld roid before I went to work in the morning, knowing it would be safely logged off at DT a few hours later.
Multiple account mining, again is ok, as long as it is a person controlling those 2, 4, 6 accounts.
Macro mining, is the use of a program that repeats keystrokes/mouse clicks/mouse moves without intervention. Obviously setting up 4 macro accounts and letting them rip through a belt springs to mind.

Why cant someone afk mine in an indy? i cant see why this is frowned upon. As for ebay selling, who flippin cares. Macro mining on the other hand is an exploit.

You can never truely shutdown in game money sellers. If there is a demand for it, it will always be there. Take games like FFXI. Gil sellers there are out of control because of the high demand. SE has tried to kill them off, but with no real success. There is nothing to keep them from coming back on a different account and credit card number. Same with WoW and other big MMO's. EVE's ISK sellers are not that bad...yet.
And people may think, "Who cares if people buy ISK? Doesn't effect me." People who think this have not a clue. Again take games like FFXI. One year ago, a certain low Lv item costed 300,000. Today that item costs 3,000,000 because of Gil sellers and buyers. 3 million may not be a lot to EVE players, but it's a good amount for FFXI players.
I would hate to see this happened to EVE.
