I have seen the 60,000 players figure thrown around the last few days. Just wondering where you guys are getting this number.

There are 60k subscriptions, far from 60k players. with the old 'Power of 2' promotion i think its safe to assume theres alot of people with multiple accounts.
The only way to get a close figure of actual players would be to total up the amount of credit card holders, although this number would be slighty off, as i know many people that have their accounts on mates credit cards.
any number given would have to be an estimation, even by the Dev's/Gm's.

I would probably divide that figure by two (at least). Number of subscribers is/was 60k, but I personally have 3 paid-up accounts, 2 of which are in play and one of which is still training up learning skills ;) I figure ú8.99 * 3 per month on my hobby is okay - given I spend ú5 per day on Vino and ú5 per day on Marlborough lights to make playing Eve bareable ;)

each paying account is a countable figure - i would say if you divvy the time zones up into the 3 major ones ie Americas - europe / western russia / middle east around turkey and the asia eastern europe - australiasia / SE asia and oceania regions and what about 12k in euro land - 6-10k in americas and probably 3-5k in asia - pacific you might have 30k active players each day with the other half as on and off paying players
I think once it spikes to 100k CCP will be very profitable and can push ahead with more staff and even better gameplay additions. Perhaps even jove space openining up with anotuher 2000 systems to play in

It's a countable figure, yes, but it tells you nothing about how many PEOPLE play the game. If there was just me, and I had 60,000 accounts, then the number of people playing would be one.

well all CCP need to be worried about is the amount of active players - and the RL $$$ rolling in to expand and develop the game and remain profitable

If you'll take a closer look at all of the games graphed out there, you will notice that Eve is enjoying a parabolic growth curve, constantly increasing but gradually leveling off. Unlike many other games that have already peaked and died. Of course they have much to be thankful for, as we do as well, because some of the games, mostly started by Electronic Arts, are now defunct. RIP Earth and Beyond, etc.

If 60,000 players did play eve all at once or even if 30,000 players logged on all at once, most of them would be in empire space.
Could the server handle that many players cos it lags bad when on highway routes in empire and corps in wars with one another.

I don't think the cluster could handle 30,000 users simultaneously without crashing, but we never get more than 13,000 on at once anyway. If we ever get to the point where we're crossing the 20,000 user mark I'm sure CCP will already have beefed up the cluster to support the extra load.

well if u make a trial account , it tells you how meny ytrial accounts are playing out of how meny players are playing.

Wonderfull link Larno. Since Everquest removed the number from the login screen I have always wondered how their subscriptions were going. Its kind of interesting that a game that has PvP and Non PvP servers is even in its decline serveing 7.5 as many subscriptions as EVE who's most vocal players say would die if they put up a Non PvP server. And thats in a fantasy game type of which there is much competition. EVE currently has a monopoly on space based games and can only pull in 60k. If they ever get a decent competitor they might find their carebear population who they ignore to pamper the PvP players, just trickle away.

Are you quite sure its only 60k subscriptions? The 10% rule would suggest that we most likely have almost twice that. _________________ [SAK] And Proud Of It! aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base? |

I thought the number of subscribers CCP gave was for players not characters, but I could be wrong.

Well I basicly get that OPINION because I watch them time after time nerf drops, cash, rewards in general in secure space to attempt to force them into low and no security space where they obviously don't want to go. Now since thats what all the PvP 0.0 crowd keep telling CCP thats what they need to do,and CCP keeps doing what they are told by that group it seems rather blatant to me.
Case in point can drops in dead space missions, or rewards and drops in level 4 missions. The PvP crowd cry "oh no the care bears can make money in secure space" "Help us great CCP designers nerf them so they have to come out and let us blow them up." Seems to me rather plain to see.

No. Its fine if you don't want to go out to 0.0. You just can not be making the same kind of money that you make in 0.0 easily.
It was either nerf level 4's or make 0.0 a lot more rewarding. And I am saying that as someone who lives in empire and makes all my money from level 3's and ice mining.

Thats your opinion and obviously the 0.0 crowd agree with you. But has it done what it was supposed to which was to force players who prefer PvE to have to go out to 0.0? Not as far as I can see or tell from the posts. All it did is take something that was fun and profitable and make it harder, less rewarding, and more of a grind. Especially with the change to missle and drones, but thats for another forum. But regaurdless its a example of designers doing something to help the PvP crowd at the expense of the PvE crowd. I have seen little if anything done in this expansion to benifit those who enjoy PvE with the possible exception of BP drops in complexes. Not sure why they want people to do complexes rather then missions, but then again I don't see the logic of a lot of the design changes done in this game. Most changes tend to do more harm then good.

You are forgetting. That is Star Wars Galaxies .
Don't you people know anything though? There are only 200 people that play EVE, the rest are massive amounts of alts. I mean at the height of the Stain Empire's reign, it was just 3 real people in the alliance.
Seriously, I would think that with 60k accounts, there are at least 45-50k individuals that actually play this game. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

I'd estimate 60k subscriptions, 30k players, average 2 accounts per player (some have 1, quite a few have 3 or more, most have 2). I got nothing to back this up.

I have been told that the current cluster can handle 200,000 total accounts. Meaning about 35,000 simultaneous (three times current numbers). -- Proud member of the [23].

If the 60,000 number is the number of active accounts it means that we have probably anywhere between 25,000 - 35,000 individual players.
