A detachment of RFAUX Provosts storms an undisclosed Amarrian Penal Colony, searching for suitable candidates for enlistment.
Due to the recent influx of new pilots joining the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, the age-old tradition of æpress gangingÆ has been reintroduced into the Merchant service.
In order to satisfy the sheer diversity of needs regarding the different trades employed by the Auxiliary, the demands on secondary personal has meant that new methods have been needed to supplement standard recruitment. Due to the highlighted costs involved with such a relatively large-scale expansion of the Auxiliaries capabilities, new personnel are of critical importance in order to facilitate steady growth. With the institution of recruits through more conservative methods proving insufficient to meet Auxiliary needs, the conscription of healthy men and women for service has proven to be a most viable option. In agreement with a number of minor families throughout the Empire, many undesirable elements have been redeployed in order to uphold the common good. Not simply limited to those of traditional stock due to official policy, all racial backgrounds are liable for æcall-upÆ to ships service. From slaves to death-row inmates, all are potential servicemen within the Auxiliary.
If you have any personnel within your transit hangar that you believe will benefit from a life within the Auxiliary, then please feel free to contact any member of the Auxiliary in order to arrange for a suitable time for collection. From damsels to science graduates, from ungrateful tourists to listless slaves, we are interested in all applicants to the service. For further information please consult your nearest recruitment officer, or deliver new personnel to our Ghesis 4 M4 Headquaters for embarkation. Should this prove unfeasible, Escrow new personnel to myself direct for collection by an Auxiliary service ship.

Under Imperial law, all those within its borders are subject to possible service should they be required. ------------------------------------------

I didn't realise RFAUX was a representative of the imperial authorities, and authorised to press-gang imperial citizens. It's not like you're the navy, or something.

This is not a recent law Makkar, and yes you are right to point out that we do not work directly for the Empire or the Imperial Navy. However, the direct enlistment of men and women within the borders of the Empire FOR the direct good of her subjects is not widely regarded as an issue in itself, especially when regarding the intake of lower caste personnel.
Of course we comply with Imperial Law on such matters, and I am yet to receive a letter of complaint from any new personnel gained within this method. We pride ourselves on our active education of new personnel for their new life in the service. ------------------------------------------

It goes much deeper than that. The Amarr Empire is in itself, a false authority. Ask yourself: What right does this organization have to claim power over so many people? What entitles them to enforce their laws? Everytime you are confronted with some kind of authority, you should ask these questions to yourself. And if the aswer to them is 'nothing', as in this particular case, then break free of them, or die trying! _

Teh Auxiliary does not speak for Imperial reasoning on such a matter as you are bringing to this particualr conversatin, and so I am confused as to what exactly you wish to bring bar preaching.
How does the Auxiliaries recruitment efforts work in relation to what you are stating? ------------------------------------------

It would seem that the misguided Minmat's cannot understand the simple policy you have instituted here.
Else, they know full well what your poicy entails and are trying to be clever in order to garner support for their cause.
I see no further requirement to justify it to them. -----------------------------------

Gaven,
The current phase of recruit is proceeding well, with ground crews as well as other staff numbers rising steadily into suitable levels for fleet support. Interestingly, we are actually seeing requests from nationals outside of the borders of the Empire, with scores of direct applications from each of the four major nations. This is of course not limited to our pod pilot intake, but from independant citizens who wish to sign on and support the peace effort. This is most noticable regarding the crew compliment of one of our pod pilots named Ghom, a Sebeistor who has pledged his support in the defence of the trade convoys operating under the RFAUX flag.
If you have any personnel that require rehoming, we will be more then happy to take on your staff for induction into the Auxiliary. Please feel free to contact myself direct in order to arrange for a transport ship to carry out collection, or dispatch the personnel to our Ghesis enlistment center. ------------------------------------------

Edited by: Franx on 15/08/2005 22:13:08 One thing though, what incentives or safe.guards have you put inplace to stop these conscripts from damaging or worse (or better from the point of veiw of the matari) destroying your ships? A ship's inner workings are a bit sensitive after all, or they wouldnt need all the armour.
It's not as if an inmate on death row has anything to lose afterall, why not damage or kill some of the people who to him represent the authorities? He's going to die anyway.
[EDIT: Safe.guards? a bad word? ]

A fair question, and one that deserves a full answer to the best of my ability.
It is important to note that not all of our non-podbound workforce are conscripted, infact many join the ranks of the Auxiliary of their own free will. As a haven to those who wish to leave elements of their old life behind due to the sanctuary of service, enlistment has its own relatively unique advantages.
The men chosen for enforced enlistment are commonly it is true, not of the upper echelons of polite Amarrian society. Liars, thieves, degenerates and renegades, all are provided with the opportunity to seize a final reprieve. For many, this final grace is their last chance from salvation, before eternal incarceration, execution, or a fate far worse then the exodus from this mortal coil.
In order to understand a worthwhile answer to your question, you must understand the benefits that service within the Auxiliary can bring. The Auxiliary at all levels is highly regimented, in keeping with Amarrian tradition that has its roots deep within an organisation asà liberal as the RFAUX. The overriding principle within our number is of an individualÆs service not only to his immediate peers but to the Empire, irrespective of gender, race or history. As a loyalist group we are in the vast minority when applying this principle to our own, and yet we have seen results through our indomitable resolve to overcome diversity. We have faced pirate threats and supply shortages, terrorist attacks and internal strife, yet it has been our individual differences that I believe is the main reason for our continued survival.
Of course, all those inducted within our number do not share the ideals to better themselves or the Empire itself, infact there are indeed those who wish to disrupt our works in petty revenge for their selection for service. The majority of theseà troublemakers are identified during initial training at our main Ghesis facility, and promptly dealt with in accordance to official procedure. Physical and mental conditioning is an important step in readying what is for many their first step at interstellar life, a matter that I am sure you can remember can be quite disconcerting in your own tentative steps to pod-pilothood. Although a structured and strictly administrated organisation we do recognise these issues, and through experience can remove almost 99.998% of further situations. For those who continue to pose a common problem, provost personnel are a common sight aboard ships of the line as well as the trade fleet itself. Provost are the equal to what could be termed æpolicemanÆ, charged with ensuring that order is maintained amongst the rank and file. Dressed in the easily recognisable red and white uniform, members of the Provost regiment are known for their efficiency in putting down cases of insubordination. It is important to note that although a peaceful group as a whole, the Auxiliary employs the right to terminate problem personnel at the discretion of security personnel, in line with standard maritime practice. ------------------------------------------

In regards to the possibility of direct sabotage from those who have ænothing to loseÆ, we have found that each man and woman has a great deal to lose when they are properly motivated. Each serving individual is given their own bunk, 3 square meals a day and access to recreational, medical and educational facilities as standard. All requirements are paid for by the RFAUX itself, minus luxuries and æshore-basedÆ activities. æShore leaveÆ is a restricted activity for those conscripted as you put it into the Auxiliary, as a sa***uard to ensure that their further well being is assured. With a dramatic improvement in the quality of life, as well as the gift of a sense of place and responsibility to an entity greater than themselves, I have personally seen the transition of convicted murderers and molesters to officer material in a matter of years. The penalties for disobedience are swift, brutal and in some cases terminal, BUT the rewards of faithful service raise many common men to a level beyond their station. Very few reject the possibility of personal salvation, perhaps in very rare circumstances elevation to further service as a fully fledged pod pilot.
As a final measure, those men that survive their 5 year term of service who wish to stay on are fiercely loyal, practical and above all vigilant to the needs of the service. There have been notable occasions where potential troublemakers have been intercepted by their comrades, aware of the dangers that internal activism can bring. It is the crew as a whole that is responsible for the final well being of their own, a philosophy that has most certainly shown its worth. ------------------------------------------

This is an excellent policy. Before I became a pod pilot myself, I was once a crewmen on a Tempest Class battleship. There was no room to move up or even become a captain. The best that could be managed is to become head of your own department. Unfortunately this rarely happened and becomming a captain on RSS' dime is incredibly difficult. Eventually when my ship was destroyed but I managed to survive. I had to take my own danger pay and use that to enlist in capsuleer schooling. -----------------------------------
