It's hard enough fighting lag never mind fighting your own drones :)

Agreed, it is incredibly annoying that they have 2 speeds, a slow one, and a decent speed one. Any idea when this might be fixed, I mean geeze, how hard can it be to fix? the devs are very skilled and for them this would be no big deal to fix right?
so yeah, any ideas when next patch is guys?
Thanks in advance

Just yesterday i lost a bc and my sec status since my drones went haywire and attacked a gang member. arghh and the same happend a week before that.
Very annoying and they really need to take a look at the drone problems. i like them alot and they are fun to play with. and great for frigs now after the Ml nerf. but not if iam going to loose one ship peer week..

That was probably because some Kali code went out by accident and ended up breaking some more important stuff while introducing a few minor fixes, drones included. There are many drone fixes and changes already made in Kali, but you will have to wait for them unfortunately. Its not as simple as just bringing out the drone fixes, there is a lot more involved.
By the way, drones attacking random targets is not going to change, its just logical: finished killing the target it was commanded to -> pick a new target whose owner has been hostile to you or something you own. I might see if I can push for drones only attacking targets you have locked, it would be lighter server load than picking their own targets, especially in fleet battles.

Agreed - its all in here and i cant believe that its sooooo hard to fix man.
Is it really possible that these problems just cant be fixed ?
Otherwise, surely, after 2 years of being broken they would have been ???

I also had my drones take on a gang member. My Sec status went from .5 to .0 before I could get them back under control. This should just not happen, ever.
Sticking together is another I've experienced.

I recently noticed how drones stop attacking random targets after their main target is dead. The drone flight speed problem was somehow solved this way, because they just stop and wait for a new order, and when it's given, they fly at standard speed.
Dunno if that was a chunk of Kali slipping through..

Honestly, I have no idea what's the logical part of it... These humans in the far distant future, they're atleast partially sane, right? Now who in their right mind would waste firepower on trashcans and neo-signs when hostile firepower is still closeby? Imagine yourself as a real occupant in a real Eve universe - I bet you'd be choking your drone supplier and demanding controllable drones
So, changing that drones-gone-berserk-and-stupid makes sense also in RP way, IMO.
Can't wait to see what drone problems especially are going to be addressed in Kali...

First of all thnx for the reply Lickspittle
Its good to know that the drones actually are getting some attention. Also its nice to know how drones are supposed to act to some extent (attacking hostiles). However - i think you need to reconsider what hostiles mean... It should not be potentially hostiles as it is now - but entities that have you locked and are using offencive modules. Would be much much better than each drone doing a totally random attack.
Drones engaging locked targets might work - but you need to consider that you might have targeted gangmates to boost their shield etc
Its clear that the topic of my original post will be valid untill such logic is implemented.
And still I for one would very much like that my drones attack as an entity (per group), so they do not split up and attack their individual target...
Also - thnx for the "Return to dronebay" option - i would just whish that it worked when you fly faster than the drones orbit speed. Or when your drones have spilt up and thereby enters scooprange at different times (might not be an issue if they attacked as an entity as i suggested earlier)
Ooh - and did I mention drones still get stuck on eachother
All these arguments are still valid as they have been tested in release 3573
Best regards
BaJaiah

I had an idea for drones recently. Could we see something like orbiting drones around our own ships contributing to missle defense? With a small chance of shooting down incoming missles.
Weakness is of course now your drones aren't actively attacking.
Anyone think that's cool or crazy?

Hmm - well you got a point there ...
However - I'm a bit a RP guy and would very much like the logicks in the EVE universe to act sanely.
Try to imagine if every weapon system in EVE acted as erratic as drones. Only then you would have all the fun you are looking for
My problem is that drones are more stupid than FOF missiles - which has the added logick to engage the closest potential hostile... I think I'll go to my workshop now and move the targetingcomputers from some light FOF's to my drones... c ya

BTW is it possible to make droids not being physical? I mean, often I'm forced not to use drones in fleet combat because my gang will find a hard time warping out cause droids will just keep bumping into them, disrupting the warp procedure. It's a bit annoying because unless I fit on some guns, I won't have any weapon to use during fleet combat.
Just think about it, drones are small and puny, they shouldn't be able to disrupt a HUGE bs from warping away, right?

Thats fine by me, but I would like to see that with 2 features:
1: using striktly the hostility conditions (only targeted ships or beeing targeted by ship EXCLUDING gang/corp/alliance members to prevent support ships beeing attacked by swarms of "friendly" drones )
2: keep drones as a coherent group within the preselected groups .. making all drones of one group attack the same - valid - target.
That's for the automatic drone target selection. Of course, if I especially set my drones upon a gang/corp/alliance member I expect them to obey .
In addition: How about a "defend" order, making the drones attack every hostile target (see 1.) and doing it in groups (see 2.)

Now that's the best idea I've heard all day. They should do that. Run a few complexes or lv4 missions and watch a stray drone fire at a sentry outpost/turret, thus agroing every single NPC in the stage.
Spittle, it's nice to hear that something is being done... but I have heard it before and the fixes have either not materialised or fallen short of expectations so I'm afraid I'm growing rather doubtful that it'll EVER be fixed. It's also disheartening to hear drone control referred to as a minor issue. I imagine there are plenty of players who have alot of skillpoints invested in drone skills and invested much ISK in a ship that uses drones as its primary weapon who might disagree with that description :/
Assuming we're flying a drone ship (Vexor, Domi etc.): Good things about drones:
-Excellent anti-frigate/rogue drone defense: especially if you web the target. -Multiple damage types to choose from: one drone bay can hold any and all types of drones. Versatility in other words. -Difficult to target with ship sensors, then difficult to hit with guns/missiles.
Bad things about drones:
-Too many command processes: For example, would "launch and attack" be so hard? "Return to drone bay" is in, but doesn't seem to work for me. -Commands unreliable. drones are agressive and unruly and their agression seems to follow very loose rules. If I order them to attack a target within command range I expect them to pursue and attack that target and do nothing else until the target's destroyed or I order them otherwise. -They require babysitting.... the polar opposite of drones are missiles. Lock, fire. Launchers keep firing, then auto-reload and give you a verbal warning that they're reloading. Imagine if you fired 2 missiles at once and they got stuck together, zigzagging at 100m/s.
In short, I like drones but having to micromanage them while I'd rather be watching say, my cap and armour levels is making me consider either getting a megathron of just giving up on gallente ships altogether. It's nothing a bit of bug-squashing won't solve, but what's taking so long? Exactly what fixes are being considered/worked on? Any new features, like a launch and attack command or UI improvements? ----------------------------------------------- My Ideas: Drones wish list <-- 2 years old :O

add to bad things:
if you're in a big gang you will disrupt people from warping away if you're using drones :)

This solution has been ruled out because it assumed people would not be happy with drones no longer being able to attack people when you are target jammed.
There will be something done to address this, and probably in Kali, but not right now. I have lots of other things I have to work on at the moment, but this is sitting in my inbox.

Well, drones aren't meant to be perfect, reading your mind and teleporting destruction on your every whim. These sound like normal acceptable behaviour from what I am reading.

Like discussed in the thread, the current behaviour is: After destroying the target. Attack someone or something randomly. It doesn't even have to being aggressive to you. And it may be 30km's away even though the other (hostile) target is 1km from the drone. It results in getting aggro from all rat packs.
Getting drones only to aggro people you have targeted is a good idea, but as you mention in another post, it will be a nerf vs people that attack you with ecm.
If they could have a list of possible targets, I'd be happy:
1. Attack closest target that is shooting/doing something aggressive (ecm etc) at the owner
2. Attack the closest target that is doing hostile action to someone in connection with the owner (other drones, maybe gang members, pos)
Maybe have the same options for your dronebay, as with a pos (attack someone below a certain sec rating. Attack someone losing sec etc)
And of course, execute the given order. Not give up after 10 seconds of chase and start shooting at a bunker instead would be nice.

I agree with BaJaiah.. Drone logic and interaction is messed up.. All behaviors he listed I have experienced, except the getting stuck thing.. But im only a couple months old at this game so theres probably ALOT of bugs I haven't seen.. I have lived with but been annoyed by the drones behavior of not remaining with their designated group to attack targets as a group.. I like my 8pk of Ogres and used to have them split into 2 groups of 4 each.. But becaues I quickluy discovered that I'd have to constantly redirect them to group attack targets. To simplify my involvement I now only have 1 group and after each kill I have to redirect them to attack a single target as a group.
As others have mentioned I do not want uber drones.. well in my heart I really do want uber drones, however for now I'd like to have logical and effective drone performance.

They only problems with drones that have ever bothered me is how they slow down to a crawl when you tell them to attack something after they've chosen their own targets. That being fixed would be more than enough to please me.

LOL, I seem to be in minority in that my drones tend to do what I expect them to within reason. I can't say I've seen them splitting off to attack another target before they've destroyed the one i've told them to. I imagine drones are always going to take a measure of babysitting to use effectively, and if you're not continuously ordering them to attack specific targets, that's not going to be very effective.
I've had alot of fun running drones in my Vex and my Domi, and it took some time to get used to the way they function, but I think i've started to get the hang of them recently. However, obviously drones could use a little bit more love so I'll add this post to keep it bumped.
If drones are splitting off from targets they were ordered to attack, I guess that ought to be something of a priority, but like I said I have yet to notice it, and I use drones alot, and I like to use alot of them.
Anyways, much thanks to the devs for giving us some newer features for drones, they're a little bugged atm, but that tends to happen in big patches anyways. And much, much thanks for allowing me to scoop all the drones within range without having to wait for the whole group to come back, that's working better for me than anything, and it was something I hadn't even known I was missing.

OK heres the #1 example in my experience about drone stupidity that nearly looses me my ship or alot of drones;
In a deadspace mission where you are going to take out a drone silo, theres 2 sentry towers and a big mess of rogue drones. While I have many things locked like towers, drones and such.. I suddenly notice my pack of ogres have gone way off screen somewhere not attacking targets attacking me, or them.. I look over and they have decided to attack in force the target that has no offensive capability, the silo its self.... How incredibly stupid is that? Why do they do this? What threat level or agro has the silo caused?
Like wise in missions where there are large collideable structures of varuious types, often my drones go off to attack harmess objects while the dangerous ones are still being all dangerous and shooting and stuff... This is nearly intolerable and pushes my limits on not flaming the dev's in here for slopy logic code..
Before you give me any new commands that don't work, fix the drone brain.
