I was wondering if anybody could fill me in on this event...there was a news article posted today which seemed to suggest a lottery/mining event going on, phrased in the future tense...I tried to find out more about this and was told that it might be over...there were also no details in the post as to where to go (seemed to imply that mining was taking place in a specific system) nor any specific drop-off point, although the lottery itself seemed fairly opened ended (will continue until such time as)...since it's an NPC corp, there's nobody to eve-mail and I was wondering if anyone else had any info? having read as much as i can in the forums it would appear that the events are simple shouted out in local chat in the system that it is being held. and there is no pre announcment much like other event`s. cant see why anyone would want to go mining in a crusier for an hour mind seems like a waste of time for alot of players . even if i won the crusier prize i still could have made more mining scordite with my large barge. imo this event need a serious rethink. perhaps turn it from a single hour long event into a continuous thing, were by for the next 2 weeks all scordite sold to mmc stations gets you a ticket. from a rp ing perspective this event makes little sence too as this just would nt increase the amount of sordite the corp was producing by much. comeon ccp sort it out give us a real reason to mine for mmc

Have you ever thought that maybe this event isn't directed at you? That is could be done for the benifit of the newer players, who don't fly mining barges.
The event sound fine, and sounds like a good way of getting some of the new players into rp/events. As for your idea.. where is the player/actor interaction? They only required 1 million scord, and i do belive they have ship size rules.. so how can they enforce that rule.. if there is no interaction at all. There is more to events, then rewards and isk.

Edited by: Longasc on 16/09/2005 06:31:02 You believe they had ship size rules...
This was no event for new players, it was a very vague thing going on somewhere in space.
Who really participated? Probably some veterans rather than newbies who did not even read what was going on. Most probably did not even bother.
All in all, only a VERY VERY small minority of the playerbase was reached.
This is almost like me giving everyone that starts after he leaves station 100 ISK for 3 hours.
People already made good suggestions. Let the Event run a a week, then check the sum of mined ore sold to MMC and everyone who sold at least 1 slab gets a ticket, or tickets based on how much he sold to reward effort.
An Event should reach and entertain by far more players.

Most EVENT's are Aurora run and are scheduled for very small numbers of players. This is deliberate so that the EVENT's are more easily handled by the Director and Actors. I've been in EVENT's where there were hundreds of players involved, but those were larger prime fiction tied-in EVENTS. In nominal story arc EVENT's you generally you're talking less than 30 people. Alot of times these smaller EVENT's won't make it into the news or even the Event's forum - like for example, Aurora placed buy/sell orders for specific companies.
Also in general, the isk/item reward from EVENT's is generally pretty low, if you make afew million from an EVENT count yourself lucky. The actual reward is the enjoyment of taking part in the EVENT and helping, in some small way, shape part of the EVE universe.

I've played for a year and half and I have never been in an Event. MOstly I guess because they always held when I'm not on :(. I was just hoping since this event looks to be help right next door I could get more information so I might be able to take part.
Thanks for all the info that has been given and that will be given.

Chances to get involved in an event seem to be rather small. :(

Not really.. The event channel is a good place to start.. along with the race channels.
