Sweet, im part of the 1mb Ntl club, so I guess I should be getting 10mb connection next year
As long as they increase the 3Gb download limit I got atm, by at least 10 fold it'l all be good :)
Whilst we're on this subject, any of you ntl guys have problems with your modems?
I seem to lose my connection with regularity once every 2 days or so, and only way to bring it back up is to disconnect the modem, and fire it up again :(
You guys have the same problems at all?

I would give ntl a call - it may be your modem thats at fault. I had mine changed once due to the upstream being out of sync.

Yay it even makes up for their crappy digital t.v service.

Looks like it could be pay-per-mb though. Plus they are likely to stick with the crappy 256kb/s upstream to stop people sharing files.
If it wasn't such a pain in the arse to move all TV/Phone/Net over to BT/Sky I would have done it years ago. There are some nice multi-IP offers out there with decent up/down stream which is good enough to host from.

Edited by: Edge1 on 08/08/2005 13:46:26 Wardog - your right the d/l limit hasnt actually been enforced yet, but when I got Broadband they said the 4th quarter of this year. :(
So I presume, if and when I get upgraded to a 10mb connection, that will come with a limit, that by then will be enforced.
And yeah the upload speed sucks :(( Uploading stuff to Eve-Files takes forever.
If my modems symptoms persist ill give ntl a bell :)

Edited by: Amataras on 08/08/2005 13:55:31 NTL still suck no matter how fast their service is. It took them 8 weeks to solve a problem with the internet connection in my parent's house. -------------- The Eve Diplomacy Table

Yeah ntl don't have the best reputation.
But we've got ntl phone/tv etc so would have been a bit of hassle to use another broadband service.
The clincher for me was the 1st years reduced price for the 1mb connection, forgotten what it is now though.... ú10 I think.
Pretty good for a 1mb connection, even with the limit once they enforce it.

This is the most dumbest thing NTL have done, what's the point in having 10MB power when u got capped bandwidth ___________________________________________ http://www.eve-tutor.com

Never any problems with ntl either....
The mythical 3gb limit has allways been just that, obviously i pray to the sky they don't enforce such a ruling a'la BT
If they do, ill simpley find one that doesn't enforce a limit.
I don't use or abuse maybe like in the past.. but what these sodding bt and the like adverts never tell you is how their wonderfull 2mb service can only be used to it's protential for like 2hrs a month... (aside from in the small print)
ntl go the same way.. out it goes, despite never having a single problem with it for the last 4 years of having it (despite odd outage, once, twice a year)

My modem goes off every night :( kinda noticed the capped bandwidth too. How do you know if you go over you're 30 gigs?, kinda crap really.
As for a besic 10mb connection, that's pretty cool but higher bendwidth + content will probably mean you're well going to go over your 75gig 'allowance'
Think i'll get me a new ISP

I have NTL broadband and every single time it gets above a certain temperature outside my line drops for a fraction of a second every 15-30 seconds.
Seems a pretty ridiculous problem to be having, especially since the last 3 repairmen managed to solve nothing!
To be fair though...it has been unusualy hot in scotland recently.
I have never exerienced this mythical "limit" either.

As far as I know with ntl BB, if you are downloading over your limit and you do not make other subscribers who are on the same 'segment' as you have a worse service then they turn a blind eye. So being in an area with not many subscribers is a plus.
I think the 10mb package has a 75gb a month limit - after that its chargable.
But this can all change...

As I said in my posts re the download limit.
I have been told that they will enforce it by last quarter of 2005.
Also we will be able to monitor the amount we have downloaded etc, I think its all on their website.
This is certainly what I was told when I joined up in June.
