Why not? I say the lawabiding citizen start camping back. Charge 500k ISK if they are pirates(maybe 1 mill? :), 1 ISK if they are civilians. (or maybe.. uhhm.. what they feel is a responsible donation to you for keeping the gate safe, no must tho). Get together with other corps, arrange camping parties to liberate the space you travel through.
Its boring to camp most of the time, but there can be some fun moments!
This is a convo I had:
SlightlyMad > sup? "Pirate" > want to go to station for a few so i can go out and go kill some pirates "Pirate" > need some cash to buy my large turret skills SlightlyMad > what are you trying to say to me? "Pirate" > go to station "Pirate" > so i can pass "Pirate" > i know ya want to kill me :) SlightlyMad > ohh.. SlightlyMad > well.. the way I see it.. You either pay me or get enough friends to chase me away ;) "Pirate" > or "Pirate" > i wont kill your corp mates anymore "Pirate" > and corp wont also SlightlyMad > ... Its actually the other way around if you ask your corp mates "Pirate" > mabey to the others "Pirate" > but not me SlightlyMad > gonna cost you 500k ISK to pass. SlightlyMad > Thats the standard rate, isn't it? "Pirate" > lol i got 9k "Pirate" > bought my bs skill today SlightlyMad > ohh, thats really to bad. Maybe you can drop me some presents I would like?
The "pirate" ends convo here. He tries to slip by later but gets his ship popped. Should have paid that toll you know... ;)

Great idea, Mad. More people should stop whining about player pirates and do something about them like you have. Keep up the good work!

Not that I don't like seeing pirates get some of thier own medicine.
However, camping is camping, and I don't think that is the type of PvP everyone had invisioned when they bought EVE.
Camping sucks, I think I'd have more fun mining :)
I wish CCP would let us freewarp, and use scanners to warp to ships that are not ganged (pirates tracking traders, bounty hunters tracking pirates, etc.)
I think this would allow PvP to expand past all the damn camping going on.

There is NEVER going to be a warp to ship option (other then the gang one) for one reason. It'd make miners REALLY easy to kill. Your proposed solution would be a newb killer, Dwarf. Beyond that, it'd make bounty hunting way to easy. The keyword is HUNTING. It's not bounty going to the system he's in and clicking him. So deal with it.

Actually, once I knew that there was going to be a network of gates with choke points and such, thats exactly what I knew would happen with the PvP in this game.
Last night my corp and a couple of others took 6 cruisers and attacked a gate camping pirate. He jumped out just as a freind of his warped in. So some of us jumped after the first guy, while the rest turned and opened up on the newcomer. He was down to about 50% armor/hull when he broke our warp jammer and warped. I saw where he went and gave chase. Caught him at 2 gates before he managed to elude me. It was all hella fun.
I'd say PvP in this game is just fine.

It's called "low security space" for a reason. |

There you go!
The "pirates" can supply you with a great deal of entertainment. In fact.. if there weren't any "pirates", I think we'd see a lot more corp wars. People like to blow up stuff.. :)
And I wouldn't have any real players to shoot at, which I kinda like. So its all fine by me.

Hey SlightlyMad! I think your idea is catching on. Although not entirely. The other night I was traveling through Obe. A notorious Jackass Griefer Pirate Pod Killing For No Dam Reason System. As I approached a gate I saw 5 or six ships camping at the gate. One was listed as a threat but that was it. Being that I was in a little slasher I propmtly bolted out of there. Then I realized that my slasher cruises at 1000m/s. Love those AB's/Overdrives and Navagation Skill Level 5. So I went back to the gate. And would ya know not one of them Targeted me. Not even the player with the negative security rating. I even played with the BS and orbited it and bumped it a few times. The only response I got was this "shoo :-)" It was pretty funnt watchint a little slasher fly around a big BS. Like a mindless gnat anoying you at a picnic or something.
Anyway the corp was Evolution and if they were doing what you proposed Slightlyman..
All I can say is thanks and great job. I may not give the 300 to 3mill isk tolls these pirates are asking for but I would dontate some isk as a token of gratitude
:)

Evolution pod killed me last night for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Was having a friendly exchange of mails from one of it's members shortly before - moral: don't trust anyone.
They even started a chat request to me right before they attacked as a diversion - not that they needed to with several BS's vs. my moa...

Don't know anything about Evolution and I can't take any credit for successful anti-camping-camping. Its not a very new idea :)

What is Gate Camping. Sound like an exploit.

Don't bother. Whitedwarf speaks from the miner's perspective. He lacks the combat experience to realize that gates are the only viable places to catch a person.
As for the original poster, knock yourself out. That's the way it was supposed to be: Less bleating, more shooting :)
I mean its like you want corporations to oblige each other like its sex or something. Pffft I would rather **** my enemy.- Rohann
Be careful out there. That other guy waiting in the queue for the gate MIGHT be a baby-munching frock-burner, YOU JUST DON'T KNOW!- Lallante |

"Don't bother. Whitedwarf speaks from the miner's perspective. He lacks the combat experience to realize that gates are the only viable places to catch a person"
It's pretty sad that we have this awesome large environment to play in, and there is only one type of location that non-corp war PvP can happen, and an age old griefing tactic has to be used to accomplish the PvP.
Very Lame.
One thing that EnB has over this game is definitely freewarp.
It's like telling a fisherman he has the entire Atlantic ocean to fish in, but he can only travel from buoy to buoy. And then telling him, there will be pirates at every buoy, to board his ship, steel his fish, man-rape him, then kill him.
It's way too restrictive, for both pirates, and those trying to escape pirates.
Make freewarp, long range sensors, sensor jammer (for miners) etc, all skills and modules. It would make the game more robust.

Camping a gate is already boring enough when you have to wait on players passing by, imagine the boredom on having to wait till a pirate come by.

*Disclaimer: I play EVE and no longer play Darkspace. That being said....
How to do a MUCH better job of space combat in a MMORPG (Free Trial Included).

Merge the combat from that game with EVE and you'd have a gold mine.
