Bad idea, because it would lead to the expectation (especially from new and prospective players) for avatar combat.
Otherwise, a cool idea, although eve would be filled with terrible gangster-wannabe avatar pictures.
WTF?
I start EVE. The very first thing I do is build this awesome looking character.
Then I log into EVE.
The very first place is puts me is in a room, inside of a station, with all of these interactable object; except the door.
6 years I followed thier press releases about Ambulation. The tech demos, the CGI shot film about the future of EVE, the talk about player owned shops, corporate offices where you can plan ops, demos of guys hanging out in bars, talk about how dynamic character interaction would be.
It's 2013 and I'm still looking at the same UNFINISHED content that they promoted the game on in 2006.
How in the world could they possibly build expectation any higher then they already have?
Imagine if Trion had shown everyone the housing system they created, demos and press releases showing off how customizable it is. Then when their expansion released all they gave the playes was the ability to enter an empty landscape and walk around.
People would have had a fit, and a bunch of them would have cancelled their subs. (People often neglect to point out that along with everything else people got pissed about when Incarna released, one of the very first things, before there was a news letter leak and planned protest, there was ANGER from a good portion of the playerbase that CCP spent all these years to give us ONLY the CQ's.)
If CCP wants to us to spend AUR, provide as large a portion of the playerbase items they'd be willing to spend it on.
They should take some of the added revenue they're getting from the more then 500k players they now have and hire some extra devs so they can finish the content they started years ago.
The NEX and AUR was supposed to be supported by content that is unfinished, which is the first thing that every new player sees when they log into EVE for the first time. Or is the CQ not where they put you for the first time, now?
What ever happend to ship customization? I see little bits of stuff every now and then, but...what's the current status of that?
