Hi,
I was looking at the market place for characters today. Many post mention "perfect xxx pilot" "no waste" or someone was bidding less because the character for sale was not "focused" enough. I read on EVE UNI that there is no skill cap in eve.
So my question: Is there like the wrong way of having learned skills? Other then my personal time wasted by skilling up something half way and then deciding go a different way? For instance my character has quite some industry skills but then I decided to become a mission runner and now I am a fairly skilled BC drone pilot. But of course in no way perfect yet.
So whats the deal with "skill waste"?
Thanks cheers Snille |

For example, wasted skills on a tengupilot is battleship skills. But if your not training your character only to sell it, "wasted" skillpoints doesn't matter. |

ok thanks. But in my opinion the buyer should be grateful to get a perfect Tengu pilot with the bonus BS skills.. I mean is shouldnt make the character worth less. |

If it's your own pilot...there are no wasted skills
If you are selling it...people call skills that aren't related to the purpose of the character "wasted" or "unfocused". This is because more SP makes a character more expensive as it means it took longer to train it and thus that account was active longer then it needed to be.
And of course there is the whole clone limit idea. Say I'm going to PvP every single time I log in, this means that I will get podded every now and then. Having a character with 20 million SP in industry just make the updating of my clone more expensive because I have to update to suit skills I never use.
But in general, like said, there is NO way to train/skill a character wrong. Everybody (even though they won't admit it) has skillpoints in places they never use anymore. Lots of people have tried multiple things in EVE when they started and then switched, your not the first and certainly not the last who does that.
Just skill what YOU need so you can do the thing YOU want to do to have fun playing the game in the way YOU like it. Never ever let anybody tell you how to play or skill up your character, it is you who pays to play EVE so it's your decision.
EDIT:
And no there is no total skillpoint cap other then time needed to train skills. Currently there are enough skills to keep you skilling for over 20 years. Given that EVE is a decade old, this means someone who started from day one can only be at half of every skill if he never ever missed a second of skilling. |

Makes the character worth more. Why pay for a BS/Tengu pilot if you only wanted a Tengu pilot? More SP also makes clones cost more.
