spoils.
So, reading many posts and researching topics on this forum indicated to me that in order to reap large rewards in this game one needs to take large risks.
It was with some trepidation that I pressed that button "yes I want to jump into lowsec" But I did it, heart pounding, blood sounding loud in my ears. My hauler appeared on the other side of the gate with a hold full of command centres. I actually felt a little faint when I saw my controls indicated that there were no pilots within shooting range. I, with shaking hands, aligned to my trusty ship to safe spot I had scouted out earlier in the day. What was only seconds felt like time was dilating but eventually the reassuring roar of my warp engine kicked me in the ass and hurled me through space. I arrive at my safe spot and was able to cloak my ship. "phew, first gate done!" I was now able to scan the next gate for anyone that might take a fancy to my new ship. 448.000 ISK and the command centres were at risk, but the lure of those two planets I had scanned in a 0.2 system kept me focussed. I was gonna make millions if only I could get to them and start my colony. The scan of the gate was good, all clear. Coming out of warp on top on top of the gate started my pulse racing again. The gate activated and I held my breath. "YES! This is actually going to work." All clear only one person showing on the local comms. channel in the system and my hasty, hand shaking, database searching showed him to be of good standing with concord. I quickly warped to my safe spot so I could deploy my command centres. The deployment could not have gone better. I was now the proud owner of two planetary stations and was extracting raw materials. I planed on making different P2 materials as my research showed that that was the sweet spot for profit with my current skill. Four days have passed and I now have 2000m3 of P2 materials to get out of low sec to sell them. I found a spike in the price on both items I made. But there is a problem, I have to get it to the station. "To the brave go the spoils" This would be simply a reverse of how I got it set up. After an hour of nervous energy I have the mats safely in the station that I need to sell at. I made 12 million ISK gross profit. Damn those export taxes! But I am deliriously happy. I took the advice I got from seasoned veterans and it paid off. I had tried this planetary stuff in high security space and only made a quarter of what I have now made in the same time in 0.2. Maybe next time I will not be so lucky, but I am going to have a lot of fun finding out.

When I started out, I got tired of crowded asteroid belts and went out looking for a better system.
I found a great system. With lots of big asteroids to mine.
I thought it was neat that there were always battles on the gates, but I really didn't paid them any heed, and went about my business.
It wasn't until later that a friend told me I really shouldn't be mining in a 0.4 border system.
Up until that time, I didn't really think it was dangerous. |

Be more careful with those bio checks. Some pirates are religious about keeping a good sec status so that noobs don't see the danger before its too late. Do a quick kill board search of tje pilots' names to find out what their prefered hunting grounds are. If you are in a system where they've logged a lot of kills itmight be smart to keep an astute eye on the d scan |

Still have the feeling that this is an alt char of a veteran player.
But still a good read and gives new players an insight that low-sec is NOT as bad as their coward NPC School corp dwellers say. And if it actually is a genuine new player....Welcome to EVE, younare going to make it far into EVE with that attitude. |

I already admitted I played eve years ago for a few months. But certainly not a veteran. I would offer to give you my API thingy but then you would know my main and put a bounty on me like you promised to so, that wont happen. So I will take your backhanded compliment.

+1, good write-down of a positive first lowsec experience. If only the bears believed 95% of the time this is how lowsec truly feels, there might be a lot more low-level industry. I felt the same way sneaking my first BPOs into NPC nullsec for some ninja manufacturing + extortion markup. |

I dont trust any API. It only shows one account, if you have multiple it wont show. Anybody who justifies that an API check is a solid proof of something is a ******.
And the compliment is genuine, I really like the post and it is true and I like the attitude about jumping into low-sec as a new-ish player. |

Then I genuinely thank you. You will have to take my word for it that I am a new player. I cannot prove otherwise. If your doubt is sown by the knowledge I show in the OP let me say this. I simply did as I was advised in the many places a newbie receives such wisdom. I wanted to specialise in exploration, planetary interaction and scanning/scouting. I did want to get into the low-sec areas because all the guides point out, you make better money there. So I Googled and used the search feature to find the information I need to make the risks as minimal as possible. I simply did as you yourself tell people to do, research. I then thought, rather than say "get out of empire and discover" to tell a my story in a manner that made for a nice read. I hope I succeeded I am learning that the "trust no one" attitude prevalent in this game is justified in many instances, but I fail to see what I gain by being duplicitous in describing my learning curve. Maybe you are a born cynic?
*edit*I also wanted to brag and show off a little that I had made so much money from PI which for the most part is passive income. |

And I hope you succeeded too. EVE needs more people daring to go into the less hostile places and don't be affraid cause some scrub in their NPC Noob corp said that Low and Null equals instant death. It's not true and your story is actually a nice way of real experience over some hear-say information that has been circling the corp for ages.
Maybe for the next step, you might want to look into some NPC null-sec or Providence. Null is even better then low-sec with the benefit of not having to deal with sec. status hits when you do shoot someone and of course it pays out even better. |

Excellent stuff OP! Good to see that you did your research before embarking on your business too.
Sooner or later, you will get your ship destroyed in low-sec, possibly with a haul of valuable cargo. This will be the true test of your grit; you'll either become another nay-sayer who spends all their time in high-sec misinforming other new guys with tales of insta-death on arrival of a 0.4 system... or you'll analyse what happened, learn from it and become a more savvy low-sec industrialist |

That is not my playstyle. I have no intention of shooting at anyone. Only run away and hide. I have no desire to flex my internets. I will be shot at, I have no doubt about that, and if I cannot escape then I will die. Simples :-) |

Yes, I was scared whitless when I was getting my stuff out, But I had factored in all the costs of losing everything. It would not have been the end of everything had I failed as other than a few clicks each time I logged to reset my colony, it was free ISK. I have no doubt I will not get so lucky every time. All I can do is make sure to play as smart as I can and minimise those risks.

Miss Spent Youth wrote:My next plan is to start exploration to find rare ores but at the moment I have geared my skills to exploration and industrial things, so combat skills are lacking. I think my next move should be a low sec corp. Keeping my options open at the moment though. I wouldn't mine in low sec. I think you should, so I can loot you, but I wouldn't do it if I was you. IMO you're better off finding a 0.0 corp if you want to mine. Null sec has better ore and isn't full of pirates. You'll probably need to be in an exhumer to be able to tank the rats there, but i'm no miner so someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Neat - gratz on your sucessful venture into low sec Lot's of us has been there and I remember those first jumps to 0.4 systems similarly, it's been 4 years now, and the thril of going low secl has gone - but enjoy it while it lasts.
As for mining in low sec, i've done it - it's all a matter of finding the right systems. If it's worth the risk? Risk is what makes this game fun. |

Hey Op. I am so with you! I new to the game too. I spent about a week playing on my own in high sec until I found out a group I knew from another place on the net was starting up with a base in low sec. Before I joined them I read about hauling for trade and looked up some trade things on eve-central. I found a buy order for zydrine for a significant amount above what it could be bought for in high sec.
I went for it and loaded up 80 millions worth in a probe fitted with more cargo space. That was most of the isk had at the time. I sweated for the entire journey. Although I only made 6 million in profit which isn't huge I was hooked on taking more risk. Now I'm more comfortable in low sec and love it even though I've been blown up quite a bit.
The other day a corpmate found a wormhole to system in null which he said seemed relatively quiet. He suggested that if anyone wanted to try their hand at some ninja mining then this was a good chance. I thought what the heck and went in with a venture. First I had to find belts with no rats. I managed a couple of loads while running from rat spawns keeping my eye on local and jumped back to the WH if someone appeared. It was really quiet though. Then I made a mistake and alt tabbed to look up something about mining higher level ore. Of course that's when I got popped. Damn.
The next day the WH was still there and I decided to take an even bigger risk. I went in with a Procurer. I could barely fend off the rats but managed and had a corpmate occasionally jump over to help with the harder ones. On and off through the day I managed to get many loads back home in between jumping when someone came into local. It made mining quite fun. I really had to work for that good ore.
My day ended when my luck finally ran out. As usual someone appeared in local and I hit my warp. They were faster then me and in what seemed like only a few seconds a fleet of 13 covops battleships appeared instantly at my location. I later found out after sending them a message that they had hotdropped onto me. The whole experience was so worth it even though I lost my ship. The hotdrop scared the bejeezus out of me! It was great fun. I ended up not losing out isk wise and would have of course made out way better if I hadn't lost my ship but it doesn't matter. I would do the same thing again if the chance comes up.
I'm so glad that I chose to take some of these risks early in the game and would highly recomend doing so to other new players. You learn a lot. It makes accomplishing things much more satisfying. If you lose you can always get it back and when you win, you win on a number of accounts. |

New player here, too.
After the tutorials and the sisters of eve arc I wanted to try something different, so I took up exploring, hunting for the hidden treasures of the galaxy. Got bored in HiSec and decided to try my luck in the oh-so scary LowSec. The place where newbies die the moment they jump through a gate. Where evil pirates gnaw upon our bones. Where there be dragons.
Three days later, I'm still alive and happily scanning away in my frigate.
Actually met quite a few nice people out there, including a pirate or three who actually gave me some good advice after a bit of cat and mouse play.
Sure, someday someone will get me. I'll learn from it.
And come back.
