the UI in that pic has a lot of issues, but it is better than what EVE uses today. CCP may be amazing at a lot of things, but prioritization and designing a functional, minimalist UI are most certainly not among them. |

Pretty much what Akirei said; it's a step in the right direction as a concept, and CCP would be wise to draw inspiration from pictures such as this one (read: NOT blatantly rip it off, that would be bad - and plagerism).
After POS towers get some love, maybe we should all start a 'Flogging the dead UI' thread? |

Seems interesting, though I find it a little hard to understand but that might have more to do with it being drawn in paint or something.
Maybe CCP should run a design a better UI contest.

back-of-a-napkin rendering aside, I have for a very long time wished for a more precise/intuitive navigation control- "double click and head MAYBE where you think you're going but probably 30+degrees off" is really obnoxious. Indicating where I want to go relative to my hull would be WONDERFUL (if anyone remembers DarkSpace maybe something like that only in an actual 3-dimensional space). |

Vector indicators would be really nice to have.
Take note CCP.
To bad it is not likely something we will get.
The EvE UI needs a serious overhaul.
I was sort of look forward to the possibility of a new UI with the carbon release to bad that was scrapped. |

hence why i said it had a lot of issues, paramount among them being using up just as much screen real estate yet having *less* visible information that is critical to the moment. no overview is far too crippling with the way EVE works.
a good design would allow things like having a "reds / neuts in local" indicator, obsoleting a hugely tall local window. it would include the option to take the clunky HP / cap display and turn it into some small percentage numbers, able to be placed anywhere. etc, etc. |

@Tanya Powers: I'm still undecided
@Grey Stormshadow: Now that you mention it, lunch did taste a bit different today, and I wasn't sure what that green stuff was...
@Renan Ruivo: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17260941/EVE/Ferox.jpg
Judging from this undoubtedly accurate depiction, I am sure you will agree with me that even the most uncultured oafs could ascertain that the Ferox is one of the most distinguished and noble spaceships, and the only choice for the discerning capsuleer of refined taste.
@Botleten: It was either this or station games so, lesser of two evils
Don't worry guys I'm not quitting my day job any time soon :D Just wanted to draw this and get it out of my system |

It certainly is an interesting exercise and parts of it I like. Although in a big fights (lets call them blobs) I shudder to think what would happen so you'd have to be able to switch to a more "overview" like system in those.
I do like how it could work in terms of small gang warfare, I think the icons that you see on the ships that fire you could become transparent and fade to invisible/very transparent.
I do prefer the own readouts of the ships to remain where they are although some sort of reshuffle can be done I suppose. similar "ui's" have been seen on eve trailers (like dominion) so I think idea's like that are not wasted on CCP or these forums.
edits: I still don't get why the executioner is shooting sharks at the ferox though. - [yellow]English only please. Zymurgist[/yellow] |

I don't think it's a good idea, it would get very crowded very quickly because you either have to show ALL like that or you will still need the normal targeting icon, in which case the info is doubled and just clutters it all up. It DOES look funky but it's not practical. Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude. |

DID i do it right? I'm sure we can unanimously agree that the most important feature for a new UI is a command line interface |

+1 to original concept. 3d, in-space UI is a must have for a state of the art space sim You fail you fail you fail you fail you fail you fail you fail to jump because you are cloaked |

The UI could really use an optical update and I am not talking about more settings or some small changes to windows and fonts, but a lot of modernization. A lot of games have 3D effects in their interfaces nowadays.
CCP could look at their own game trailers, The Butterfly Effect for example and integrate some of it into the actual game client. |

this UI is hard to understand, moreover there's tons of others things to add (chat, overview...), which mean there will have an issue about size. and i don't even talk about big fleets ; your idea may be good for small fleet / solo, but that's all. unusable on big browls |
