While sitting and mining And blowing up pirates with my drones switching between harvesters and wasps... I realized somethign there were cargo pods everywhere...
I also realized how annoying it was flying around to clean them up... one time there were so many containers it was lagging up my system (We were too lazy to fly 10 km to get this pirate that some how got stuck out 29km and kept spawning his friends, which naturally died from our drones causing massive cargo anyways)
ANYWAYS My idea was to create a "Cargo Drone" If harvesters have a cargo hold why couldnt a drone? about 150 CU in size with a hold of 50 or so... You could lock onto a cargo pod and tell the thing to "retrieve cargo" it would fly out at a relitively slow pace say 200 m/s (Allowing for pirates (NPC or other wise) to attack it and possibly snitch its loot it retrieved) grab the cargo and fly back to you.
it could work off of the heavy drones skill perhaps? just an idea for us lazy people and those who love drones.

So how does something like this idea reach the devs since it I would assume it wouldnt be too hard to implement considering the wonderful game they have for us seems so entirely stable (most of the time =) Do how do they take notice of an idea like this =)

If you look in the statistics for drones they already have cargoholds... heres to hoping!

Better idea, maybe the drone just tows the pod to within 1500m of your ship and then detaches?

Or just make a certain type of mining drone multifunctional, the advanced drone perhaps.
I still would like to push for the bomber drone you can send ahead to clear out the other side of a warpgate with.

the droid towing the pod over would be cool but I dont know how possible that would be ... can objects within the game ... tow other objects? is that possible?

How about making use of a tractor beam that pulls the containers in one by one.

You do realize that this woould also make it very easy to.
1. Take ore from someone from a long way away. 2. You blow up pirate cruiser A. While fighting pirate cruiser B. Player Ilikedrones who is 60k away sends in his cargo drone and snags the loot container without ever even getting in lock on range.
While it would be convenient. I can see a lot of ways it would just cause more problems.
Oh he's got a secure container out? I'll just sit back at 40k away and send a drone to go snag it.
Life isn't fair and neither is Eve. Get over it. |

Already been suggested ages ago to have some kind of container clean up drone. -------

You need to be in lock-on range to command a drone to do anything, since you need to target the <whatever> first.
Tow-drones would be excellent. If you think about it, it is already possible to push an object with your ship, so why not pull it? Don't believe me? Drop a can, fly about 10km away, approach the can. In my moa it actually doesn't put the brakes on until I've pushed the can a good 2k.
